Bishnoi Community President Says Will Consider Forgiving Salman Khan if He Apologises Personally
A couple of days ago, actress Somy Ali issued a formal apology to the Bishnoi community with regard to the Blackbuck poaching case of 1998. Responding to her apology, Devendra Budiya, the President of the All India Bishnoi Society, said that they would consider the matter if her former boyfriend, Salman Khan, made a formal apology.
For the unversed, Salman Khan was the prime suspect in the Blackbuck poaching case in 1998. The alleged hunting of blackbucks took place near Jodhpur, Rajasthan, when the actor was shooting for his film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai.’ Apart from Salman Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre, and Neelam were allegedly involved in the case.

Somy Ali apologised to the Bishnoi community on behalf of Salman Khan a few days ago. She said, “I apologise on his behalf if he has made a mistake; please forgive him. Taking someone’s life is not acceptable, be it Salman or an average common man.”
The President of the Bishnoi community responded to her by saying, “If Salman himself apologises, the Bishnoi society will consider the apology. The mistake was not made by Somy Ali; it was committed by Salman. Therefore, he should propose to the Bishnoi society that he wants to apologise. He should come to the temple and seek forgiveness. He should further take an oath that he will never make such a mistake in the future and will always work to protect wildlife and conserve the environment. If he does this, a decision of the society to forgive him will be considered.”

The Bishnoi community considers the blackbuck a sacred animal—in fact, a reincarnation of their spiritual leader, Jambaji. They were the ones who filed a complaint against Salman Khan for hunting down and killing their sacred animal. Although arrested at first, Salman Khan was immediately let out on bail. In 2016, the Rajasthan High Court dismissed the case, declaring a lack of evidence against Salman Khan.
Since then, there has been a regular tussle between the Bishnoi community and Salman Khan. Just a few days ago, two gunmen belonging to Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang fired shots outside Salman Khan’s residence early in the in the morning. Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of Lawrence Bishnoi, later took responsibility for the threat in a Facebook post.
