The trailer of the highly anticipated film 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar' was released on Monday, March 4. The film is based on the life of the Indian freedom fighter and Hindutva ideologist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, also known as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.

In addition to starring as Savarkar, Randeep Hooda makes his directorial debut with this film. Swatanrya Veer Savarkar is supposed to be more than just a biopic, offering a bold revision of contemporary Indian history on the nation's military uprising against the British Raj.

The film also stars Ankita Lokhande as the leading lady who plays Hooda's on-screen wife.

The trailer of the film opens with a glimpse of Randeep Hooda as Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, walking through the notorious Kaala Paani prison.

A riveting dialogue plays in the background, 'Hum sabne padha hai ki Bharat ko aazadi ahinsa se mili hai lekin yeh voh kahaani nahi hai' (We've all read that India got its independence due to non-violence, but this isn't that story.)



The trailer then gives us a few glimpses of the pre-independence period, where we get a glimpse of many freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Madanlal Dhingra, and more.

One of the pivotal scenes in the trailer is Savarkar's and Mahatma Gandhi's meet, where the two freedom fighters exchange their divergent ideologies with each other.

Speaking about the movie, Randeep Hooda shared that the film aims to refute the propaganda against the brave freedom fighter who was defamed with titles like 'Kayar' and 'Maafiveer.'

The film's producer Sandeep Singh shared his opinion behind the film's making, 'Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was a true patriot. But he continues to be misunderstood. Veer Savarkar's rebellious ways to take upon the British led people to believe that he was a terrorist. I would like them to watch the film as it will put their ill belief to rest. The film will make them see Savarkar in a new light with all factual information.'

Randeep Hooda Shares his inspiration behind making the film

The Highway actor shared that earlier, he wasn't aware about the freedom fighter's contribution to the Indian freedom struggle. As Swatantrya Veer Savarkar trailer is out, he shared what inspired him to narrate the story.

Randdep said, 'When I read up about him in great detail, I was astounded by his life and his influence on other freedom fighters of that time. Why do we as a nation don't know much about him infuriated me so much that I took it upon myself to tell his story to the world as it was.'

He later went on to explain his motivation behind making the film, as well as acting as the lead in it, saying, 'This film is a tribute to his undying spirit and unwavering commitment to the nation and about the contribution of armed revolution in India's fight for Independence which he influenced so much. We will break many myths surrounding Veer Savarkar and honour his legacy with an honest, no-holds-barred portrayal.'

Swatantrya Veer Savarkar will hit the theatres on March 22. The film stars Ankita Lokhande as the female lead, along with co-star Amit Sial.

The film is produced by Zee Studios, Anand Pandit, Sandeep Singh, Randeep Hooda, and Yogesh Rahar. The movie will be released in two languages, Hindi and Marathi.
