Marathi actor Ashok Saraf honored with the Padma Shri
Marathi veteran actor Ashok Saraf was honored with the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. The versatile star attended the award ceremony where he received the prestigious title from the President of India.
On Tuesday, May 27, New Delhi saw many deserving Padma Shri awardees being honored with the prestigious national titles who came from different walks of life, doing some incredible work for the country.
After adding another feather to his already crowded hat, Ashok Saraf took to social media and penned a rather heartwarming note. He thanked his fans, friends, family, and colleagues who supported him throughout.
Sharing a video of himself receiving the award from the president, the veteran actor wrote in Marathi, “The Padma Shri honour is a special moment in my life. I thank the Maharashtra government. Thank you to my family, colleagues, and audience — this wouldn’t have been possible without your love. Let your love and blessings remain the same forever.”

As soon as he shared the post, his colleagues and fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory comments and expressed their pride of a regional star receiving the national honor.
Actress Amruta Khanvilkar wrote, “Sirrrr, such a proud moment for all of us,” adding hands-in-the-air emojis. Veteran star Supriya Pilgaonkar also commented, “The proudest and happiest moment for all of Maharashtra.”
Several of his fans felt nostalgic as they congratulated the Hum Paanch actor. One user recalled, "Sundays and Ashok Mama`s movies... an inseparable part of our childhood. Our early years were enriched by your and Lakshya uncle`s acting. Very proud.”
Another comment read, “I grew up watching Ashok Mama’s films... and today, he has been honoured with the Padma Shri award. Life feels fulfilled. I truly wish to meet this incredibly talented artist at least once. Ashok Mama, I bow down to your artistry.”
Before receiving the Padma Shri award, Saraf greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, President Droupadi Murmu, and other dignitaries present at the event. This gesture has garnered widespread appreciation.
With over 300 films to his credit, Ashok Saraf has left an unforgettable mark on both the Hindi and Marathi film industries. He made his debut with the Marathi film Janaki and went on to appear in movies like Aytya Gharat Gharoba, Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi, Balache Baap Brahmachari, Bhootacha Bhau, and Dhumdhadaka.
