Thalaivii is an upcoming multi-lingual Indian film starring Kangana Ranaut. The film is a biopic of the life of J. Jayalalithaa who is a former actress and politician who served six times as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film premieres on 10th September,2021 in theatres. Here are some fascinating facts you need to know about Thalaivii.
1. Kangana started preparing for her role in May 2019. In September 2019, prosthetic specialist Jason Collins, who worked on Caption Marvel (2019), was hired to design Ranaut's looks and it has been reported that she will sport four looks in the film. Both Ranaut and Vijay headed to Los Angeles to undergo the prosthetic sessions.
2. Kangana had to gain 20kgs for the film. She also trained under dance master Gayatri R. to choreograph Bharatanatyam sequences for this film so as to suit the character.
3. In 2018 it was rumoured that, Vidya Balan was reported to play the lead character when news of a film being made on J. Jayalalithaa started doing the rounds.
4. The film will available for streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime, four weeks after its theatrical release.
5. In 2019, a formal complaint against the film's makers was filed by Deepa Jayakumar, Jayalalithaa’s niece, through the Madras High Court. She claimed to be the legal heir of the former TN CM and asserted that her permission should have been sought by the creators of the film.
6. Shooting began in Mysore in late 2019. but a crucial scene in the climax required more than 3000 extras. Which is why Ranaut insisted that the shoot must not be resumed during the pandemic leading to a delay in the film's release.
