A month after the famed politician Pramod Mahajans demise, his son Rahul Mahajan was hospitalized owing to an overdose of cocaine. His friend Bibek Maitra who was also hospitalized with Rahul however passed away post the incident. Rahul was however arrested the following day.

Husband of popular B-town actress Ayesha Takia, Farhan Azmi is also the son of Samajwadi Party MP, Abu Asim Azmi. The man in question was detained for alleged possession of drugs in 2003. Farhan, a hotelier, was arrested in Dubai along with Bonnie Chhabria, son of automobile designer Dilip Chhabria, Shaan Sippy, grandson of filmmaker, G P Sippy, and Pramod Dandekar. One famous husband of the actress we say!

The riotous villain of Aamir Khans Delhi Belly also has a story here. Vijay Raaz was arrested in UAE for possessing 25 grams of marijuana that was found on screening his luggage at the airport. Often seen at his whimsical and crazy best in films, now you know where it all comes from.

A classic case of ecstacy and agony, veteran actor Guru Dutt has been best known for his legendary performances in Hindi cinema. However, the actors life too had a gory side like several other film stars. A drug addict through most of his career, the actor passed away in 1964 owing to substance overuse.

Veteran filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt too has a history of substance abuse. The director who has seen the worst of Bollywood fell for the trap while struggling to make a mark. A self-confessed junkie at one point, Bhatt has always been vocal about his addiction in his early days.

One of the most revered actresses of the 70s, Parveen Babi was seen as the pretty girl-next-door in films. Flying high with consecutive successes, the actress fell for the sedative trap early on. Following some major substance abuse episodes, Parveen eventually became a recluse and stayed away from the limelight. A loner all the way, with her failed love relationships, the actress went on with drug abuse and finally passed away in January 2005.

The famous DJ who has doled out some amazing remixes earlier this decade was detained at the Dubai airport for possessing small quantities of drugs. However the charges were later dropped on account of vague test results. Well, we all know what to believe, dont we?

Just about in his mid-20s and few films old, the actor made way to national headlines in the year 2001. Fardeen was caught red-handed whilst buying cocaine and underwent a voluntary detox programme thereafter.

Son of veteran Indian actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis, Sanjay was the quintessential bad boy of Bollywood. The actor indulged in a series of substance addiction cases during his early days in Bollywood. Sanju was arrested for possessing 337g of cocaine in 1982 and was later treated at a rehab centre in Texas, USA. Severely hitting his career, Sanju however took the serious road to life and emerged winner thereafter. The actor often referred to the days as nightmarish!

A phenomena thats no news to any Bollywood fan, celebrities and substance abuse have always gone hand in hand. Cases of substance abuse by the B-town celebs are legion but rarely do we hear their names. Some of them who were caught in the act were disgraced across media while others got away with it just as easily.
