The recent teaser launch of the highly anticipated movie `Ramayana` has not only captivated movie enthusiasts but also sent a powerful ripple through the stock market. Prime Focus Studio, the production house behind this ambitious project, has seen a remarkable surge in its share value, attracting significant attention from investors.
A Stellar Rise in Shares
Namit Malhotra`s Prime Focus Studio has experienced an impressive rally, with its shares soaring by nearly 98 percent in the past three months. Following the `Ramayana` teaser release on July 3, the company`s shares rallied by almost 7 percent, hitting a record high of Rs 175 apiece on July 4. This substantial increase further intensified after reports of actor Ranbir Kapoor`s reported investment of Rs 20 crore in the company. An exchange filing indicated that Ranbir Kapoor was among the proposed allottees, aiming to acquire 12.5 lakh shares.
The market capitalisation of Prime Focus, the studio behind Ranbir Kapoor and Yash`s `Ramayana,` dramatically increased by ₹1000 crore around the first glimpse launch. The company, listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), saw its share price jump 30% from ₹113.47 to ₹149.69 between June 25 and July 1, after its board approved a preferential issue of over 46 crore shares. The buzz generated by the `Ramayana` first glimpse pushed the shares to a peak of ₹176 on July 3, raising the market cap from ₹4638 crore on July 1 to ₹5641 crore. Although the share price later settled at ₹169, with a market cap of around ₹5200 crore, the two-day surge was undeniable.

The Vision Behind Prime Focus
Founded by Namit Malhotra in a Mumbai garage in 1997, Prime Focus has evolved into a global force in visual effects, animation, production, and post-production. A significant milestone for the company was its 2014 acquisition of Double Negative (DNEG), a visual effects powerhouse that has since garnered eight Academy Awards for its work on acclaimed films like TENET, Dune: Part One, and Dune: Part Two.
Producer Namit Malhotra, a prominent figure in both Hollywood and Bollywood, emphasised the cultural significance of `Ramayana.` "This is a cultural movement for every Indian around the world. With Ramayana, we’re not just retelling history; we’re introducing our legacy to the world. Bringing together the finest global talent allows us to tell this story with authenticity, emotion, and state-of-the-art cinematic innovation. We’ve seen Ramayana portrayed before—but this version reimagines its landscapes, creatures, and battles with the scale and splendour they deserve. As Indians, this is our truth. Now, it will be our gift to the world," Malhotra stated, highlighting the film`s ambitious scope.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, `Ramayana` will be released in two parts. The first installment is slated for Diwali 2026, with the second part following on Diwali 2027. The stellar cast includes Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash, who also serves as co-producer, taking on the role of Ravana. The teaser generated immense social media buzz, further fuelled by the exciting news that legendary music composers AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer are collaborating on the film`s score, promising a truly epic cinematic experience. Hans Zimmer, known for his iconic compositions in films like Interstellar, Inception, and Oppenheimer, makes his Bollywood debut with this project.
