BLACKPINK`s Jennie has found herself at the centre of a plagiarism controversy after releasing a teaser for her new song, Like Jennie. The South Korean singer and rapper recently announced the track, which is set to be released this Friday. However, a nine-second teaser shared on social media Tuesday raised eyebrows among desi listeners, who noticed an uncanny resemblance to a popular Bollywood song.
The teaser of Jennie`s song features thumping beats and vocals chanting her name. Many listeners noted similarities in the beats, hook, and overall melody between the two tracks. This led to an online debate, with some accusing Jennie of plagiarising the Bollywood tune.
However, not everyone was quick to condemn Jennie. A different netizen defended her, pointing out, “Pritam literally copied Pehli Nazar Mein note for note from a Korean song without credit. He probably did the same here—sampled an international track without legal credits—whereas Jennie will actually acknowledge the sample.” This comment reignited the debate over originality in the music industry.
Despite the growing controversy, neither Jennie nor her team has issued a statement addressing the plagiarism claims. Fans and critics alike are eagerly waiting to see if the singer or her management will clarify the issue.
