Revisiting Sonam Kapoor controversies on her birthday
If you think whatever you post on the internet is gone after you delete it, it`s not going anywhere. Especially when it comes to Bollywood controversies between two actresses, who take a dig at each other, later to only justify their words. One of them was Sonam Kapoor.
The diva who turned 40 today was often caught in controversies when she was actively acting in the movies. For the uninitiated, she made her glorious debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Saawariyaa.
But did you know Sonam Kapoor once called Aishwarya Rai an "aunty from another generation"? While your eyebrows are raised just as ours, the entire story was when the latter was only 36 years old.
When Sonam Kapoor referred to Aishwarya Rai as `aunty`
This was during the promotions of the film I Hate Luv Story, which made the actress a household name, when her comment made headlines and quickly sparked controversies throughout the industry.
The comment first gained traction when Sonam became the face of a prominent international beauty brand, effectively replacing Aishwarya. It was speculated that Aishwarya had voluntarily stepped back from endorsing the brand, creating enough space for the younger actresses.

When Sonam was asked about her association with the brand and stepping into the Devdas actress`s shoes, she referred to Aish as “auntie from another generation”. This left the fans furious and disappointed.
Later, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, the Neerja actress clarified, “Aish has worked with my dad, so I have to call her aunty, na!” This only escalated the controversy, with fans wondering, will she call Salman Khan or any other older actor `uncle`?
This was yet again brought up in another interview where Sonam Kapoor said she was misquoted and the situation was blown out of proportion.
"It`s all gossip. I never said any of that. I don`t want to remark on it anymore. A lot has been printed and said, and it`s all turned very untidy and filthy, and I don`t wish to get into it anymore. I really respect Abhishek as a person and had one of my best experiences working in Delhi 6. Aishwarya Rai is Aishwarya Rai. I never said that. I would address her in a deferential way, but I would never call her aunty," she explained.
