Rohit Sharma`s men in blue made 140 crore Indians proud and joyous as they defeated New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final. While the team was busy celebrating, rumours of the captain and Virat Kohli retiring from ODI cricket were doing the rounds on the internet.
The Indian cricket team lifted the glorious Champions Trophy and became world champions after they won the final against the Blackcaps on Sunday, March 9. But fans seemed to be worried about the skipper retiring from the format.

During the same, Rohit`s jovial banter with Kohli clarified that they`re here to stay and dominate the ODI format for a long time. In a viral video that is spreading like wildfire on social media, the skipper expressed his frustration about the retirement rumours in his quintessential style.

Since the Australian tour (Border Gavaskar Trophy), Rohit`s future in the team as well as the captaincy was looking dicey. But a match-winning 76 in the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand proved he`s still got it.
Rohit Sharma breaks silence on retirement
The Indian captain has put an end to mounting speculations about his retirement from the one-day international cricket format. "I am not going to retire," he said after India beat New Zealand on Sunday night in Dubai.
Addressing the press conference post the match, Rohit elaborated on the point and said, "One more thing. I`m not going to retire from this format, just to make sure that no rumours are spread moving forward."
In a partial response to a question about his plans for the team, he answered in Hindi, stating things would continue as usual. "Future plan? There is no plan. What is going on will continue," Rohit added.
There was speculation of Virat Kohli stepping down from the ODI format. However, his exceptional performance in the Champions Trophy 2025 has silenced all the remarks.
