L2 Empuraan Box Office Collection Day 11
Malayalam cinema has a new king! Director Prithviraj Sukumaran`s L2 Empuraan, starring the legendary Mohanlal, stormed into theatres on March 27th and has been rewriting record books ever since. The film marks a significant moment, showcasing the industry`s growing commercial power on a global stage.
The makers soon confirmed an even bigger milestone. On social media, they proudly announced, “Malayalam cinema breaches the 250 cr barrier for the first time in its history! The Emperor and his General navigating never seen before territory!” Star Mohanlal, who reprises his role as Stephen Nedumpally, added, “Empuraan now reigns as the highest-grossing film in Malayalam cinema history. The new industry benchmark. This moment belongs not just to us but to every heartbeat that echoed in theatres, to every cheer, every tear, to you. Running successfully in theatres near you.”
A significant portion of this success comes from overseas markets, highlighting the film`s international appeal. The 135 crore collected abroad in its first nine days helped push its total past the lifetime earnings of Yash`s 2018 Kannada hit, KGF Chapter 1 (238 crore).

However, the journey hasn`t been without bumps. The film faced controversies requiring edits due to scenes some found offensive. Furthermore, financial investigations involving the Enforcement Directorate and income tax notices to key figures like director Prithviraj and producer Antony Perumbavoor added off-screen complexities.
Despite these challenges, L2 Empuraan, which follows Stephen Nedumpally`s return to tackle new threats, continues its successful theatrical run, solidifying its place in Malayalam cinema history.

Smashing Records Worldwide
In just nine days, L2 Empuraan achieved a stunning feat. According to Sacnilk, the film amassed a worldwide gross collection of 241.65 crore. This incredible performance dethroned Manjummel Boys (which had a lifetime haul of around 240 crore) to become the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. The makers soon confirmed an even bigger milestone. Domestic Run and Upcoming Hurdles
While its global performance is unprecedented for Mollywood, the film`s domestic journey faces tests. By Day 11, L2 Empuraan had earned 98.35 crore domestically and was poised to cross the 100 crore mark. However, surpassing the domestic total of Manjummel Boys (141.61 crore) seems unlikely, especially with multiple new releases scheduled for the Vishu festival weekend starting April 10th, which will reduce Empuraan`s screen count. Also Read: `Empuraan` Hits 100 Crore: Mollywood`s Record Smash, A Global Cinema Rise
Beyond the Box Office Numbers
The success of L2 Empuraan is particularly impressive given the Malayalam industry`s reputation primarily for content-rich films rather than massive blockbusters. Recent films like 2018 (180 crore worldwide) and Manjummel Boys signalled a shift, but L2 Empuraan has firmly established Mollywood`s capability to deliver huge commercial hits. However, the journey hasn`t been without bumps.
