Deepika Padukone quits Kalki 2898 AD sequel, producers call her "incompetent"
Deepika Padukone ignited a conversation that might have been the need of the hour – flexible working hours for new mums. After her controversial exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s Spirit, the actress has now officially walked out of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel.
The producers of the movie announced the shocking news with a rather salty and eyebrow-raising social media post. They called her out for lack of commitment to the project.

The production house Vyjayanthi Movies took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways."
The tweet came off as rather salty, as they allegedly accused Deepika of not fulfilling the commitment to the project.

The tweet further read, "Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works."
As soon as the tweet went up, fans gathered in the comments section to express their views. One user wrote, "Nag Ashwin should be ready to face the music from Deepika fans." Another fan wrote, “I don`t think it`s the effect of Prabhas/Spirit; it might be something else.”
Some even suggested other names to replace Deepika Padukone`s role in the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. For the uninitiated, she played Sumathi, a pregnant woman who is believed to give birth to a god-like baby.
One user suggested, “Cast Keerthy Suresh as Sumathi @nagashwin7. We have the best talent and a perfect fit for the role!!!!” Another comment read, "Glad she isn`t part of this franchise..." Literally there was no emotion in all the scenes she acted in… Even Mrunal Thakur has better expressions for the few minutes she was on the screen."
What went wrong between Deepika Padukone and Sandeep Reddy Vanga?
The Bollywood diva and the filmmaker were to unite for an action drama titled Spirit. The project was to be headlined by Prabhas. However, a few months ago, the Piku actress walked out of the film, citing long working hours.

This follows her embracing motherhood after Deepika and Ranveer Singh welcomed their first child last year. The new mom had set some conditions, including a 9-5 shift to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
Along with this, she also demanded a significant share in the film`s profit and also demanded her dialogues to be dubbed in Telugu. These did not sit well with Vanga, leading to Padukone`s exit.
She was later replaced by Triptii Dimri. Prabhas continues to retain his titular role in Spirit.
