Deepika Padukone quits Amitabh Bachchan`s The Intern as an actor
Deepika Padukone stirred the internet after she made the bold move of walking out of Sandeep Reddy Vanga`s Spirit due to long and unacceptable working hours. The new mom had a certain set of conditions to have flexible but limited hours of shooting, which caused creative differences between the actor and the filmmaker.
This sparked a huge debate in the entire Indian film industry, thus carving a path for a new wave of conversation. Many actors expressed their views in favour of the `eight-hour shift debate`, especially for new mothers.
After quitting Vanga`s Spirit, Deepika has now walked out of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer `The Intern` remake as an actor. Is this also a motherhood penalty or a creative decision?
Deepika Padukone quits The Intern
The actress, who acquired rights to remake the Hollywood classic, The Intern, which originally starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, has walked out of the project as an actor.
She will now only be producing the film under her home production banner, Ka Productions, which has previously backed stories like Chhapaak and 83.
A source close to the development shared some interesting details and said the makers are now on the hunt for a new leading lady to play the lead.

“This time, Deepika will step away from acting in the film to serve solely as a producer, overseeing the creative and logistical reboot. A new leading lady is being cast to play the part she was once slated to perform,” the source quoted.
Padukone initially roped in the late legendary actor Rishi Kapoor to play De Niro`s character. However, after his demise, Amitabh Bachchan filled the vacuum. This would`ve marked the two actors`s second collaboration after Piku.
The source further shared, “The Intern is the first of five projects she plans to mount in the coming year. She is looking to tell stories that are globally relevant."
Deepika Padukone is yet to give an official statement about her exit from the Hollywood remake.
On the work front
The diva was last seen in Rohit Shetty`s Singham Again, where she played the role of a fierce cop, Shakti. The ensemble also included Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, and Tiger Shroff, among others.
Ever since she embraced motherhood by welcoming her first child with Ranveer, fans have been waiting to see her back on the big screen.
A couple of months ago, she had announced her Telugu debut with Allu Arjun and Atlee. The project is tentatively titled AA22xA6. She will also play a key role in Shah Rukh Khan`s upcoming film, King.
