`100 Days` Filmmaker Partho Ghosh Passes Away at 75 Due to Heart Attack

Veteran filmmaker Partho Ghosh, a name synonymous with some of the most memorable Hindi thrillers of the 1990s, has died at the age of 75. He suffered a heart attack on Monday morning, June 9, at his residence in Mumbai’s Madh Island. The news of his demise has left the film fraternity and cinema lovers in mourning. Ghosh is survived by his wife, Gouri Ghosh.
The sad news was confirmed by actress Rituparna Sengupta, who has worked closely with the director.

Following this, he directed the romantic drama Geet (1992). However, it was the 1993 blockbuster Dalaal, starring Mithun Chakraborty and Ayesha Jhulka, that solidified his position in Bollywood. The film’s powerful blend of drama and action made it one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
Ghosh continued his successful run with the critically acclaimed psychological drama Agni Sakshi (1996), featuring a stellar cast of Nana Patekar, Jackie Shroff, and Manisha Koirala. The film`s gripping portrayal of domestic violence was both a commercial and critical triumph. His other notable works from this era include the murder mystery Teesra Kaun? (1994) and the gangster drama Ghulam-E-Musthafa (1997).
After a brief hiatus, Ghosh returned in 2018 with the romantic drama Mausam Ikrar Ke Do Pal Pyaar Ke. More recently, he was reportedly working on sequels to his classics, 100 Days and Agni Sakshi, leaving behind a legacy of impactful storytelling.
The sad news was confirmed by actress Rituparna Sengupta, who has worked closely with the director.
An Emotional Goodbye
A heartbroken Rituparna Sengupta shared a touching message for the filmmaker. “Heartbroken beyond words. We have lost an exceptional talent, a visionary director, and a kind soul. Partho da, you will always be remembered for the magic you created on screen. Rest in peace,” she wrote. His big break arrived in 1991 with the suspense thriller 100 Days, starring Jackie Shroff and Madhuri Dixit. The film, a remake of the Tamil hit Nooravathu Naal, captivated audiences with its story of a woman gifted with extrasensory perception.Following this, he directed the romantic drama Geet (1992).
