We catch up with the young musician who recently released her latest single “Box You Up".
Excerpts from the interview..
Q. You were fairly young when you moved to Los Angeles to study music. Why didn&39;t you study here?
There are many good music schools as of today, but when I wished to study contemporary music, there weren&39;t any. Hence, I had to move at the age of 17. I wanted a degree in vocals and basically learn how to be an independent artist, right from learning how to record yourself, own your own website, do PR, to Photoshop, songwriting, etc. Hence moving to LA was really needed.
Q. Where do you find yourself more at home? The place where you grew up or the place where you explored yourself as a musician?
Before coming back to India, I would have said that I prefer LA, but being here from the past two months turned out to be really good. Opportunities are coming my way which I never knew existed.
Q. What do you think of the current indie scene?
Great place for opportunities. The scene is just growing over here. I believe the time is now for musicians to be in the indie scene!
Q. You have worked with really interesting people. How did you manage to collaborate with biggies like them?
It was majorly networking. When I was wrapping up my first EP, one of my mentors introduced me to Travis Fernence who mixed my EP. For my next single The Letter, I had a meeting with Travis and told him that I wish to work with him and he came on board.
Q. How would you define your style of music?
I would say IndiPop. I am a fan of Pop music!
Q. Tell us about your single ‘Box You Up’
‘Box You Up’ is the first single of the upcoming EP! I wrote the song in end of 2012 and recorded it in March. I produced it with Max Mitchell who is a brilliant musician.
