Former guitarist and founding member of India’s longest running band - ‘Indian Ocean’ is all set to release his album &39;Ocean To Ocean&39;. He talks about his new band ‘Susmit Sen Chronicles’ and his track - Bongingon, which has created a buzz in the indie scene. Here are excerpts from the interview with iconic musician Susmit Sen..
Q It has been a year since you parted ways with Indian Ocean, how’s it been?
The journey continues no matter what. Lately, I have been working with talented new artists which has made my journey interesting so far. The fact that we are releasing an album in such a short time is indeed very heartening and looking forward to a great response. Hence, it has been a great journey since Indian Ocean and I am looking forward to it.
Q Why did you wait till 2013, to part ways with one of the oldest bands of India and continue on your own?
There has to be a perfect time to take any appropriate step, it could be 2013, 2011 or probably even later, but everything falls into place at a particular time/date and that’s when a decision is taken.
Q How did you decide which musicians will be a part of ‘Susmit Sen Chronicles’?
Each musician has his own story as to how they came about and joined the band. The most important thing in choosing any artist for a band is the person himself because, they can be brilliant musicians but if you do not vibe well with them on a personal level, it gets difficult to continue in a band. Therefore, &39;compatibility&39; was the biggest criteria for me. Then ofcourse, the talent and their musical knowledge also played the role. Each of them are extremely talented and together they brought a different kind of energy into the band which helped us gel very beautifully.
Q Can you shed some light on "Ocean To Ocean"
The album does not have any theme in particular and comprises of 7 tracks. We have collaborated with international musicians for two songs. Accordion Maestro Orosz Zoltan from Hungary has collaborated for &39;Bongingon&39;. The song &39;Ocean To Ocean’ features guitarist Bernie Marsden.
