The musical legend Pt. Shivkumar Sharma took his last breath today. The ace Santoor player, along with his musical partner Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, has redefined the Bollyuwood music with films that are popular for their songs over script. Join us as we take you through the musical legends work.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, Indian music composer and Santoor player passes away at 84. He was suffering from a kidney ailment from the past six months and was a victim of a severe cardiac arrest. The legendary musician, along with his partner Shri Hari Prasad Chaurasiya, has given some incredible music. Let's take you through some of his greatest compositions that have become our personal earworms for decades.
1. Silsila (1981)
His first film as music composer along with Hari Prasad Chaurasiya was the epic Yash Raj movie. Giving masterpieces like 'Rang Barse', 'yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum', and the eternal romance number 'Dekha Ek Khwaab' is still cherished even after 35years. The duo even won the Filmfare Award for best music.

Born in Jammu in 1983, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma is believed to be the first musician to play Indian classical music on Santoor, a folk instrument from Jammu and Kashmir. He has also been a recipient of Padma Vibhushan and was going to perform in Bhopal the coming week.
2. Chandni (1989)
Another Yash Raj's ethereal projects where the duo gave music that became an instant hit. Songs such as 'O Meri Chandni', 'Mere Haathon mein', and 'Mitwa' are some of the songs that are still reminisced. The film even won the National Award for Best Popular Film in 1989. Earning the second Filmfare for the film's music, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma and Shri Hari Prasad Chaurasiya were soon becoming the talk of the town.

With an era coming to an end, a source from the Santoor player's family gave out details about his demise. "He had a severe heart attack at around 9 am... He was active and was to perform in Bhopal next week. He was on regular dialysis but was still was active," said the family source.

3. Lamhe (1991)
After Chandni, the duo decided to experiement with their music and turned it into a full-fledged song - 'Kabhi Main Kahu' p;icturised on Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. They drew inspiration for Rajasthani folk music for songs such as 'Chudiyaan Khanak Gayee', 'Megha Re Megha' to the calming lullaby, 'Gudiya Rani', all sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
25 years later, the film is still considered as a cult-classic and the music resonates even today.

India's Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji took to Twitter, mourning the death of the iconic musician. He tweeted, "Our cultural world is poorer with the demise of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma Ji. He popularised the Santoor at a global level. His music will continue to enthral the coming generations. I fondly remember my interactions with him. Condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."
4. Darr (1993)
We still remember the classic "kkkkk...Kiran" and the legendary songs such as 'Tu Mere Saamne' and 'Tu Hain Meri Kiran.' Yash Chopra once again collaborated with his favorite duo Shiv-Hari to create music for the movie starring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Sunny Deol. After creating 'Jaadu teri Nazar' and winning their last Filmfare award as best musicians, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma never looked back at composing music for B-town.
The duo got busy in practising and performing Indian classical music. Till date, the Santoor maestro has over 100 classical music recordings to his name.
