Actor/filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar and supermodel/actor Milind Soman will be seen on the silver screen after long. Mahesh will be essaying the role of a Maratha king in the film.
Actress Isha Sharvanis mother Daksha Sheth was also roped in for training Deepika in Kalaripayattu and Kathak dance forms. Ranveer took horse riding lessons for the film.
Priyanka Chopra who essays the role of Bajiraos first wife, Kashibai, underwent training for the Marathi language. PC took an extensive 15 day course to learn the language spoken during the Peshwa era. At the same time, the actress was also training for an American accent for her international TV show Quantico.
Deepika Padukone will be seen wielding a sword in a 20 kg armor suit in the film. Now thats some tough work!
After Salman, Shah Rukh, Ajay and others, the film finally went to Ranveer Singh. The actor jumped onto it the very moment and was ready to go the extra mile for his role. For the song Deewani Mastani featuring Deepika, the Aaina Mahal was recreated in Mumbais Film City. Craftsmen from Jaipur worked on over 20,000 mirrors for the set that spans across 12,500 sq. feet.
As per rumours, the production house of the film had to gather a whopping Rs. 125 crore to kick-start the film that was finally studded with stars like Ranveer Singh -Peshwa Bajirao, Deepika Padukone -Mastani and Priyanka Chopra -Kashibai.
After much brainstorming on the films lead, the director was yet again in dilemma whilst casting for Bajiraos mothers role. After doing the rounds of Dimple Kapadia, Shabana Azmi and Supriya Pathak, Bhansali finally settled for Tanvi Azmi as the Peshwas mother.
While the filmmaker couldnt make up his mind about the leading ladies, he went on to cast his Bajirao. Bhansali considered SRK, Hrithik and even Ajay Devgn for the role, but the plan didnt come through.
Bhansali then thought of casting the then superstars Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor in the roles of Mastani and Kashibai. But the director didnt seem quite satisfied with his choice.
After his 1999 blockbuster Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Sanjay Bhansali expressed his wish to cast then lovebirds Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead. After the couples ugly break-up, Sanjays wish remained a dream, never to be fulfilled.
Sanjay Bhansalis magnum opus Bajirao Mastani is one of the most awaited films of the year.
