The threat of the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic has left the Indian film industry, the most affected. In the wake of the virus, leading Bollywood releases have been indefinitely postponed with the film industry stuck in a major economic crisis.
However, the surge of consumption in digital content has led to many producers contemplating to release their readied projects on digital platforms. Taking the plunge filmmaker Shoojit Sircar has announced the official digital release of his next, ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana on June 12, 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.
Inspired by an old legend, the quirky dramedy is the tale of two slimy scheming foxes in a game of one upmanship, each one attracting other members to their clan and each one with an agenda of his own.
Directed by Sircar, the film has been written by the director’s long-time collaborator Juhi Chaturvedi and produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar.
This is the first time where Bachchan and Khurrana will share screen-space in a film. In the past, both actors have worked with Sircar on ‘Piku’ and ‘Vicky Donor’ respectively. While Ayushmann bagged all the Best Debut awards for the latter, Big B picked up the National Award as Best Actor for the former.
