The casting of singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh in the highly anticipated war drama `Border 2` is now shrouded in controversy. Reports have emerged suggesting his removal from the project following a significant backlash against his latest film, `Sardaar Ji 3`, which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. The situation has been further inflamed by a formal objection from the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE).
The controversy erupted after the announcement of `Sardaar Ji 3`, co-starring Hania Aamir. Amidst existing tensions, the collaboration drew criticism, leading to calls for a boycott. This sentiment has now spilled over to his other projects, most notably `Border 2`.
Initial reports from sources close to the film suggested that Dosanjh had been dropped from the film. “Given `Border 2` focuses on the Indian Army, the makers felt the Punjabi actor`s presence would not be suitable,” the source claimed. It was also speculated that actor Ammy Virk was being considered as his replacement to ensure the film, which also stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, is not "diluted" by the controversy. The team was reportedly planning to reshoot Dosanjh`s portions.
However, more recent reports from other media outlets have contradicted this, stating that no such decision has been made, especially since a significant part of the film has already been shot with the actor. The makers of `Border 2` are yet to issue an official statement confirming or denying these developments, leaving fans and the industry in suspense.
The film, a sequel to the 1997 blockbuster `Border`, is slated for a Republic Day weekend release on January 23, 2026. As the controversy continues to unfold, an official clarification from the producers is eagerly awaited.

FWICE Demands Removal
Adding fuel to the fire, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has formally expressed its disapproval. The film body sent a letter to the producers of `Border 2`, urging them to reconsider Dosanjh`s casting. FWICE President BN Tiwari has been vocal, stating that retaining Dosanjh would imply support for his controversial collaboration. The letter explicitly states, "FWICE urges you to stand by the nation and the industry`s collective stand. Let us reiterate-- for us, the nation comes first."Initial reports from sources close to the film suggested that Dosanjh had been dropped from the film. “Given `Border 2` focuses on the Indian Army, the makers felt the Punjabi actor`s presence would not be suitable,” the source claimed.
