The actor, who became a household name with Peaky Blinders, is all set to return as Tommy Shelby in the film adaptation of the hit series.

Fans were certain that the Peaky Blinders movie would be incomplete without Cillian Murphy, and the makers couldn't agree more. The actor is all set to bring his unmatched charisma and swag to the streets of Birmingham as he takes on the role of Tommy Shelby yet again.

The makers of the film also hinted at a release date, with production commencing this September.

Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders movie

Steven Knight, the mastermind behind the blockbuster BBC franchise, has recently confirmed roping in the Oppenheimer actor in the film adaptation. After starring in the original series, Murphy is all set to get into the skin of the street gang leader.

'He definitely is returning for it. We're shooting it in September, just down the road in Digbeth,' Knight said during an interview at the premiere of his new BBC series, This Town.

During the same interview, Knight also lauded Cillian Murphy's professionalism, his respect for the craft, and all the awards he has been recently showered with, including the Oscars.

'It was so deserved. I mean, he's brilliant, he's such a great human being, he leads the line when we're shooting, and he's so level-headed and straightforward. He deserves everything he gets,' Steven added.

The British series released on Netflix, through which Murphy became a household name, was released in 2013. The actor portrayed the role of Tommy Shelby, the leader of a street gang. It became an overnight sensation.

After his monstrous success with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, fans instantly and eagerly accepted the film adaptation of Peaky Blinders to have more of Cillian Murphy's brilliance.

The Hollywood superstar had previously mentioned that he would readily jump on the opportunity of playing Shelby's character again if the script was good enough for him.

'If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let's do it," the actor mentioned in an interview with Variety.

Although the series concluded in 2022 after its nine-year-long run, Steven Knight expressed his wish to extend the narrative into a movie, which is finally under way.

Along with Cillian Murphy, Peaky Blinders also saw a stellar ensemble of Tom Hardy, Paul Anderson, and Helen McCrory, among others. The movie is all set to release in 2025.
