With OTT being synonymous with great content, we cannot wait to binge-watch some upcoming movies. One of the films that has been highly anticipated is Imtia Ali's Amar Singh Chamkila, headlined by Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. The movie revolves around Punjab's first ever rockstar and his contribution to Punjabi music.
On Thursday, March 28, Netflix revealed the trailer for Amar Singh Chamkila, and it has already left fans excited for more. The film narrates the untold true story of Punjab's original rockstar of the masses.
Diljit Dosanjh will be seen playing the role of Chamkila, while Parineeti Chopra will play his on-screen wife, Amarjot. For the uninitiated, Chamkila was the highest-selling artist of his time and redefined Punjabi music in the 1980s.
His way of expressing opinions through music angered many, eventually leading to his brutal assassination at the young age of 27.

The trailer for Amar Singh Chamkila starts by showing a young man being introduced in a Punjab village's akhada for performing live in front of the crowd. As his name is mispronounced as Chamkila, the organizer insists that he should go ahead as no one is going to remember his name.
However, he paves the way to success as his music finds resonance among the villagers, especially with women. While many appreciate his audacity, others criticize and object to his obscene lyrics.
Later, he finds a singing and life partner in Amarjot Kaur (Parineeti Chopra).
The music for Amar Singh Chamkila is composed by Grammy winner AR Rahman, with Irshad Kamil penning the lyrics. The audience will yet again see the trio, Rahman-Imtiaz Ali-Kamil, recreate musical magic after nine years. The three maestros will come together after Tamasha's melodious success.
Two songs from the album are already out - Ishq Mitaye and Naram Kaalja - and have received great reviews.

Reflecting and recalling his experience creating the iconic character of Amar Singh Chamkila, the filmmaker shared the core thought he had in mind while working on the film.
'Stories of young musicians that challenge the norms of society, who see unprecedented success and then have violent ends, are unfortunately a worldwide phenomenon," Imtiaz said.
He further added, "The life and times of Chamkila raised important questions for society, but ultimately, it is a celebration of the life of an artist, the story of a musician who could never give up his first love - music.'
Amar Singh Chamkila releases on April 12 on Netflix.
