Earlier typecasted as the funny element and comic relief in Hindi films, Jassie Gill believes it is Diljit Dosanjh who broke the stereotype of how Sardars were viewed and shown in Bollywood movies.

After his first Punjabi movie Mr. amp Mrs. 420, Jassie went on to make his Bollywood debut in Happy Bhaag Jayegi. The movie starred Diana Penty, Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill, and Ali Fazal in the lead. He then went on to do several other Hindi films like Panga (2020) with Kangana Ranaut and Kya Meri Sonam Gupta Bewafa Hai? (2021).

As for Diljit, he made his big Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab. While the movie was critically acclaimed, the singer's performance was highly appreciated. He will be seen next in The Crew alongside Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Tabu.

Both singers have also lent their voices to some superhit Bollywood songs.

In a recent interview, Gill said, "We used to talk about this in Punjab. Earlier in Bollywood, Sardars were shown as comedians. Their look was not even authentic, especially the way they wore turbans. We are thankful to Diljit Paaji for changing this. He showed people that Punjabis aren't comedians, that they are stylish [and created awareness] about the kind of work they do."
