Veteran actor Zeenat Aman recently underwent eye surgery to treat a condition she has been suffering from for the past 40 years called ptosis. It is a condition that affects the vision of a person, making the eyelids grow lower and making it blurry to look around.

Zeenat Aman gave more information about the surgery that took place in May earlier this year. She said, "There has been an elephant in the room with me for the past 40 years. It is time to show this elephant the door. I have a condition known as ptosis, the result of an injury I suffered many decades ago that damaged the muscles around my right eye."

Further, she added, "Over the years, it caused my eyelid to droop further and further. And a few years ago, it became so acute that it began to obstruct my vision."

She revealed how, due to her condition, her career started to get impacted in the early 80s and 90s. She said, "When so much of one's career is predicated on one's appearance, coming to terms with a dramatic change to it is difficult. I know for a fact that this ptosis narrowed my opportunities and made me the subject of unwanted attention."

However, she said that she never let it affect her that much. "Despite the gossip, the comments, and the questions, I never felt diminished by it. It helped, of course, that there were always a few stalwarts that stood by me and chose to work with me still," she added.

During that time, not much was known about the condition and its cure. But she recently learned that it can be treated. "The treatments available to me at that time and for decades after were unsuccessful. Then this year, in April, a leading ophthalmologist informed me that things had advanced and surgery to lift the eyelid and restore my field of vision was possible."

She underwent the surgery after some tests on May 19, 2023.

On the work front, she will be next seen in Bun Tikki, marking her comeback to films after a long time. It will be helmed by fashion designer Manish Malhotra and also star Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol in the lead.
