Veteran actor Ranjeet, known for his negative roles in films such as 'Raampur Ka Lakshman' and 'Amar Akbar Anthony', recently revealed the story behind a controversial gimmick involving Parveen Babi. On the podcast, the actor disclosed that Parveen Babi was initially cast for the 1981 film 'Silsila'. However, she was removed from the film without any announcement. Here's what Ranjeet shared.

Yash Chopra's 'Silsila' is one of the most beloved Bollywood films in India. It is a beautiful movie in terms of dialogue, casting, script, costumes, and Chopra's masterful direction. 'Silsila' was also the last film in which Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan shared the screen. Ranjeet revealed that the original cast of the film included Parveen Babi alongside Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan. However, she was later replaced by Jaya Bhaduri to create controversy for the film's promotion.

Ranjeet also mentioned his close bond with the late actress Parveen Babi. He recalled a time when he noticed her upset and crying. He shared, 'She (Parveen Babi) was my dear friend she was all alone. She was a beautiful lady. Always smiling, and we used to call her 'fawada' because of her teeth. Once, she was very upset, and she was crying. I asked her, 'Kya hua Parveen?'. We were in Kashmir, and I don't mind quoting because it's a fact. A film was made, 'Silsila', and Parveen Babi was the original heroine, but she was asked to leave. And because of a gimmick controversy, they cast Rekha and Jaya Bhaduri in the film otherwise, it was Parveen and Rekha.'
