NCB Summons Tamil Producer Ameer Sultan And 2 Others In Jafar Sadiq Drug Case

-

The Indian film industry and controversies have become synonymous with each other, especially when it comes to subjects like drugs and politics. One such case was highlighted today as Tamil producer and filmmaker Ameer Sultan was summoned by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the reason will shock you.

The Iraivan Miga Periyavan of fame directed his first film, Mounam Pesiyadhe, in 2002, starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan. The filmmaker also directed Paruthiveeran, which went on to win six Filmfare Awards in the South.

Ameer Sultan, along with three others, have been summoned by NCB for being suspected of being involved in an international drug smuggling case with DMK official Jaffer Sadiq.

Why did NCB summon Ameer Sultan?

The Narcotics Control Bureau, which recently busted a 2000 crore-worth international drug cartel case, found the links in Tamil Nadu. The organization has summoned Tamil filmmaker and producer Ameer Sultan, along with two others, to probe their connections with the alleged kingpin, Jaffer Sadiq.

Sources close to the NCB mentioned that along with Sultan, two other men named Abdul Basit Bihari and Syed Ibrahim were also summoned to appear for an inquiry at the NCB headquarters in Delhi.

While Ameer and Abdul were called on Tuesday, April 2, to appear before the NCB, Syed was given time until April 11 to seek out the mess. The summons were handed over to the producer on March 26 at his residence.

'All three were partners with Jaffer Sadiq in some of his business enterprises. Therefore, they have been summoned to record their statements," the sources revealed.

What adds more fuel to the fire is Ameer's relationship with Sadiq. The duo founded three eateries in Chennai, while the former DMK functionary funded the former's directorial venture, Iraivan Miga Periyavan.

Who is Jaffer Sadiq?

The former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) functionary was on the run as the NCB visited Chennai to summon him. After 25 days, the organization arrested him from his hideout in Delhi.

They also identified several packaged goods where the controlled substance was packaged in a way to make it look like food grain powder. NCB deputy director general, Gyaneshwar Singh, confirmed Saidq's arrest.

Calling him the kingpin of the India-Australia-New Zealand drug trafficking network, Singh said, "Jaffer Sadiq spearheaded a network that sourced pseudoephedrine in India and trafficked it to Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia under the guidance of food-grade cargo."

"It is believed that the drug syndicate operated by him has sent 45 consignments over the past three years to various countries,' he further added.
