On March 6, the trailer for one of the most-awaited series, 'Lootere', was dropped by Disney+ Hotstar. The upcoming web series casts talented actors like Rajat Kapoor, Aamir Ali, Amruta Khanvilkar, Vivek Gomber, and more.

Hansal Mehta is the showrunner of 'Lootere,' and the series is directed by his son, Jai Mehta. Earlier, he worked on the Pratik Gandhi starrer Scam 1992
which turned out to be a monstrous hit.

Lootere Trailer Explained

The trailer opens up to the expansive ocean, where a ship comes under a pirate attack near Somalia. The vicious pirates soon take the ship's occupants as hostages. The twists and turns follows when pirates reveal their real intentions.

When the captain of the ship, played by Rajat Kapoor, tries to placate the situation, the president of the port authority steps in to negotiate. The entire game of risking innocent lives for smuggling dangerous goods will captivate you till the end.



From what little is shown in the trailer, we can decipher that Vivek Gomber's character is concealing some personal secrets while supposedly smuggling a cargo container. The trailer then sets the narrative for the series, showcasing themes like power play, greed, negotiation, and deceit.

The Cast Talks About 'Lootere'

The upcoming series Lootere is inspired by the Tom Hanks starrer and critically acclaimed film 'Captain Phillips.'

The series' showrunner, Hansal Mehta, shared, 'With this show, our attempt is to bring a story of power and greed spiralling into an international hijacking crisis and the attempts of the crew to escape it. The story is bound to take the audience on an emotional as well as a thrilling adventure. Working with Jai in his capacity as an independent director has been nothing but a terrific experience.'

The protagonist of Lootere, Rajat Kapoor, shared some insights about his experience while working on his role.

He said, 'Lootere has been quite a journey, both outwards and inwards. For someone like me, who has never been on a ship, to play the captain of the ship was an adventure and a delight. We were trapped in our own ship by the pirates, and the ship crew, which is already like a family, got even closer. Moreover, the crew making the series became a family in South Africa for a few months.'

Rajat also talked about the shooting experience, which happened in the middle of the ocean, sharing, 'Long and hard days of being in the sea, in a ship, is huge but, at the same time, cramped. Lootere was this, coming together of the opposites, and everything came together thanks to the real captain, Jai Mehta.'

Lootere will be released on OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar on March 22.
