On Friday, Bollywood`s legendary actress Tabassum Govil passed away after she suffered from a major heart attack. On 18th November, Tabassum died after succumbing to two consecutive cardiac arrests at 8:40 PM and 8:42 PM. Her son revealed the actress had recently shot for an upcoming show and was supposed to resume shooting for more episodes of the same. Who Was Tabassum Govil?
Tabassum, a veteran Bollywood legend started her career in the Hindi film industry as a child actor in late 1940 and continued to showcase her talent on the big screen in the following decades. Commonly referred to as Baby Tabassum, she was the sister-in-law of popular TV actor Arun Govil, who is known for playing Lord Ram in BR Chopra`s Ramayan.
Tabassum`s Bollywood Journey
After starting her journey in Bollywood as a child actor, she hosted the renowned show Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan on Doordarshan from 1972 to 1993. She made her Bollywood debut in Mera Suhag alongside Nargis. She went on to act in some iconic Bollywood movies such as Manjhdhar, and Bari Behen (1949) and, later in Deedar (1951). Her last appearance on the big screen was in Swarg (1990).
She also debuted as a producer, director, and writer in the 1985 release Tum Par Hum Qurban. In 2006, she made her TV comeback with Rajshri Productions` Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam. Later, she went on to become a judge on Zee TV`s Ladies Special, a stand-up comedy show.
Tabassum Personal Life
The veteran actress was born in Mumbai in 1944. She was the daughter of Asghari Begum, a writer and author, and Ayodhyanath Sachdev, an Indian freedom fighter. After marrying Vijay Govil. they welcomed a son named Hoshang Govil. Last year, the actress was hospitalized after she was diagnosed with Covid.
Amidst her battle with the deadly virus, rumors were she was suffering from Alzheimer`s. Rubbishing the rumors, her son said, "I am disgusted that people can spread her picture and start a rumor that she has Alzheimer’s. This is absolutely fake. She has got no heart disease, no diabetes."
