In a shocking turn of events, prominent Indian industrialist Sunjay Kapur passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, after suffering a sudden heart attack in the United Kingdom. The 53-year-old businessman, also known as the former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, leaves behind a significant legacy in the automotive industry and a life that was often in the public eye.
Sona Comstar, the company where Kapur served as Chairman and Non-Executive Director, confirmed his untimely demise in a statement. “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Mr. Sunjay J. Kapur... A visionary leader, Mr. Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose,” the statement read.

Following the news of his death, Karisma`s family and close friends rushed to support her. Her sister, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and brother-in-law, Saif Ali Khan, were seen visiting her Mumbai residence. Close friends Malaika Arora and Amrita Arora also arrived to offer their condolences during this difficult time.
In a sombre coincidence, Kapur’s last post on X (formerly Twitter) was a thoughtful message on the brevity of life, shared just days before his death. It read, “Your time on earth is limited. Leave the ‘what ifs’ to the philosophers and instead dive head first into the ‘why nots’." His sudden passing serves as a poignant reminder of the sentiment he shared. A Tragic and Unusual Passing
According to sources, Kapur`s death occurred under tragic and unusual circumstances. He was reportedly playing polo at the Guards Polo Club when he felt suffocated. "Sunjay Kapur apparently swallowed a bee, and the sting in his throat caused a heart attack," a source revealed. He requested to stop the game and collapsed shortly after leaving the ground.
