Katrina Kaif on gender disparity in Bollywood
Katrina Kaif has had a glorious career in films. She started by doing roles where her characters were underwritten and made to just serve the interests of the male protagonists. However, that has changed completely now with there being talks of a standalone actioner that she can be a part of based on her character Zoya from Tiger 3.
Even in the upcoming Sriram Raghavan film, Merry Christmas, her role seems to be a defining element in the film. During an interview to promote the film, Katrina opened up about the disparities in terms of the pay scale for actresses. This has been a long and raging debate about how actors are paid more than actresses.
She was asked if things have changed now in terms of the pay disparity, and she replied, "No. That`s the only simple answer to that. In a word, And I think that`s a really, really tricky topic. Because I have heard it being said that `look at the top 10 openings of male-led films, and look at the top 10 openings of just female-led films’. And more often than not, there`s a big disparity in the numbers."

She also said how the same thought was reflected by an established actor whom she didn`t name: that if actors are bringing in more numbers at the box office, then why should actresses be getting paid more? She added, "This is a tricky debate. I mean, who is to decide which ingredient is the most important to make a dish? A film is a combination of many ingredients. I personally think that it would be incredible to see a little more equality."

Katrina also felt that she would like to think about it in a positive manner. She hopes that things change for the better soon and that equal pay for both actors and actresses should be pushed.
Merry Christmas releases on January 12 and also stars Vijay Sethupathi. It is among the most-awaited films of the year as director Sriram Raghavan returns after a long time since his last film, Andhadhun, which created a sensation.
Katrina Kaif was last seen in Tiger 3 which did well at the box-office. A major highlight of the film were the action sequences designed for Kaif that were loved by everyone.
