Karnataka HC slams Ranveer Singh over Kantara daiva mimicry
Ranveer Singh is back hitting the headlines, but this time, for all the wrong reasons. Months after the Dhurandhar star`s controversial mimicry of Daiva from Rishab Shetty`s film, Kantara: Chapter 1, the Karnataka High Court slammed the actor for hurting religious sentiments.
On February 24, the Karnataka HC granted interim relief to Ranveer after a case was registered against him for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
The court slammed the actor over allegations that he mimicked the Daiva character from Kantara: Chapter 1 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
This comes after Singh filed a plea seeking to counter the FIR filed against him. The HC ruled that actors and influential public figures must take responsibility to not hurt anyone`s religious sentiments.
Karnataka HC on Ranveer Singh`s mimicry
Justice M Nagaprasanna said, "You, being an actor, have influence on so many people. When you have that, you should be responsible. You may mimic, you may do anything. You have no right to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. You can’t be loose-tongued at all. You may be Ranveer Singh; you may be anybody.”
Senior lawyer Sajan Poovayya, representing Ranveer, stated that his client`s words were `completely insensitive` and the actor was eager to do any sort of damage control.

The next hearing for the same is set to be held on Monday, March 2.
The judge went on to say, “I may forget, you may forget, but the internet never forgets…when actors go on stage and try to do all this. You must use caution because the religious sentiments of the people should be respected…you are speaking about, or emulating, a deity. But being on a stage, you cannot take it lightly…the sentiments of the people of the state cannot be taken for granted. You’ve clearly damaged the feelings.”
"I`m not saying it is a deliberate statement. It is gross ignorance. It is a sacred act of the region,” the judge concluded.
For those unaware, Ranveer Singh did a loose and unwarranted mimicry of a daiva from Rishab Shetty`s blockbuster, which led to a massive uproar over the internet. Many fans expressed disappointment over his actions.
