Ranveer Singh Issues Apology After Facing Backlash For Mimicking Kantara Scene

What is Ranveer Singh`s Kantara controversy?
Ranveer Singh is gearing up for his film Dhurandhar`s theatrical release, and he is on an all-time high promoting the same. The much-anticipated spy thriller drama has attracted yet another controversy, thanks to the actor`s over-enthusiastic nature.
The actor, who was present at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, sparked public outrage for a moment that was meant to be light-hearted, leading to delivering a public apology.
What is Ranveer Singh`s Kantara controversy?
The actor enacted a sequence from Kantara Chapter 1 in front of the audience, where the director Rishab Shetty was also present. During the impersonation, he compared the Chamunda Daiva, a mystical figure adored in coastal Karnataka, to a "female ghost".
While the statement was welcomed with some laughs, it didn`t take much time to spark a huge uproar when a video of him leaked online.

The video widely spread on the internet, with many calling Ranveer "insensitive" and "tone-deaf". Many viewers opined the actor`s harmless humour offended many who believe and follow the Daiva tradition.
The Dhurandhar star took to his Instagram stories and issued an official apology, stating that his intention was to only highlight and appreciate Shetty`s "incredible performance in the film".
Ranveer Singh wrote, "My intention was to highlight Rishab`s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he had my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I`ve hurt anyone`s sentiments, I sincerely apologise."
More controversy around Dhurandhar
While Ranveer Singh`s act may have attracted eyeballs, there are several other speculations around the Aditya Dhar directorial raising eyebrows.

While everyone believes Dhurandhar is based on the life of the late Major Mohit Sharma, his parents filed a petition in the Delhi High Court. They alleged that the film draws inspiration from their son`s life, an Ashoka Chakra (posthumous) and Sena Medal awardee, without seeking their prior consent.
While Dhar confirmed that his upcoming film is not based on the life of Major Sharma in his tweet, the controversy has only increased intrigue among moviegoers.
Dhurandhar is all set to see a theatrical release on December 5.
