Hollywood actor Johnny Depp was hitting the headlines for suing his ex-wife Amber Heard on the grounds of domestic violence. While their divorce was the ugliest, most nasty one Hollywood may have seen, the Pirates Of Carribean won the case, thanks to his excellent legal team. Post their divorce, the actor received a settlement of $1 million from his ex-wife. Reportedly, he will be donating the entire money to charity.

Johnny Depp will be donating a whopping $1 million to five different charities, with $200,000 dedicated to each charity. The charities that he has selected are of a wide range. While some are for the benefit of sick kids, others provide safe housing for different communities.

On Tuesday, a source close to the development revealed five different charities selected by Depp to donate the settlement funds. They include Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Marlon Brando's Tetiaroa Society charity, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance. The actor will be donating $200,000 to each charity.

After dating for several years, the Secret Window actor and the Aquaman actress secretly tied the knot at their Los Angeles home in 2015. On May 23, 2016, Amber filed for a divorce from her then-husband and secured a restraining order against him. Heard stated she was in an abusive marriage with Depp and he had been physically violent with her during their relationship.

She even claimed he would be abusive towards her whenever he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

It was one of the ugliest, most nasty divorce cases Hollywood may have ever witnessed. In March 2019, Johnny filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife. This came after Amber wrote about surviving an abusive marriage in the Washington Post op-ed. While Johnny's name was not mentioned, the article made headlines as the op-ed was released amidst their divorce.

Johnny hired an excellent and competent team of legal attorneys to represent his case. The trial's jury awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages, which were later reduced to $350,000.

While Amber Heard has now moved to Spain with her daughter Oonagh Paige, she has left Hollywood. As for Johnny Depp, he recently walked the Cannes 2023 red carpet. He opened the festival with his role as King Louis XV in Maiwenn's Jeanne du Barry.

Videos of fans gathering outside the theatre to welcome him back to the big screen were doing rounds on the internet. The premier of the movie got a standing ovation at the film festival.
