Aamir Khan and Vir Das team up for Happy Patel
When Aamir Khan Productions dropped the announcement video for Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, Bollywood fans braced for a laugh riot — and that’s exactly what they got.
The promo opens with a scolding session: the ever-serious Aamir Khan playfully punishing his protégé Vir Das for supposedly botching his first spy film.
In the clip, Aamir lambastes Vir, “You think getting beaten up is action? … Your idea of romance is getting slapped by the girl? I requested one item number — you have done it yourself!”
The absurdity escalates when Vir cheekily retorts, “Sir, everyone has a flop. Your Laal Singh …” — a clear nod to Aamir’s critically debated film Laal Singh Chaddha. That’s when Aamir “loses it”, climbing on top of Vir and raining punches. Cue chaos, mayhem — and laughter.

But in a meta-twist typical of self-aware Bollywood satire, just as Aamir raises his fists, the audience inside the film’s world bursts into applause.
The beat-up turns into a standing ovation. Suddenly, Aamir does a total 180: “What a great film this is,” he declares — as though all his earlier sarcasm was part of the plan.
Beyond the playful jab-fest, the video confirms what everyone’s been waiting for: Happy Patel is real, it’s quirky, and it’s coming. The film stars Vir Das in the lead, alongside Mona Singh. It also marks Vir’s debut as a director.
Slated for theatrical release on 16 January 2026, the project comes under the Aamir Khan Productions banner — a studio that has dared to break moulds before.
This time, they’re banking on a spy comedy that blends meta humour, action tropes, and a self-aware take on Bollywood’s formulaic pitfalls.
For Vir Das — best known for his stand-up specials and roles in films like Go Goa Gone and series such as Hasmukh—this marks a bold shift: from actor and comedian to filmmaker.
His vision for Happy Patel is reportedly inspired by cult spy comedies like Austin Powers and Johnny English — Western-style spy parody done Indian-style, with full-on desi masala.
