AR Rahman pays heartfelt tribute to Asha Bhosle on her birth anniversary
Asha Bhosle, the legend, the immortal soul, left us teary eyed in early 2026 with her heavenly abode. We recently celebrated her 93rd birth anniversary, remembering the iconic singer for the way she always made every song golden. Music industry paid in tributes to the legendary singer, and one such tribute was by the top Indian musician AR Rahman.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday released Asha Forever, a song composed by renowned music composer A R Rahman, on the 93rd birth anniversary of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle. Recorded by Rahman with Asha Bhosle during her lifetime, Asha Forever also features students and musicians from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London. Filmed in London and Mumbai, Asha Forever has been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The music video features several Indian celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Kamal Haasan, Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Janhvi Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor. Devendra Fadnavis described Bhosle as the epitome of boundless energy and enthusiasm, saying her passion and love for life were vividly evident during her performances. He said, “Asha Ji’s voice is an experience that can never fade. As long as her songs continue to be heard, she will remain forever in the hearts of music lovers. Such initiatives should be organised every year to cherish her memories”.
About Asha Bhosle’s death
On 11 April 2026, Asha Bhosle was hospitalised at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai due to exhaustion and pulmonary chest infection. Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle announced her admission via social media, requesting privacy during the treatment. She died on 12 April, at the age of 92, due to multiple organ failure.
Following the announcement of her death several tributes were paid to her including from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Film industry figures, such as A. R. Rahman, Akshay Kumar, and Suniel Shetty offered public condolences. A moment of silence was observed before the IPL match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, and players from both teams were spotted wearing black armbands as a tribute.
