Sam Bahadur is a biographical film based on the life of Sam Manekshaw, the first field marshal of India, who served the country to victory during the Indo-Pak War in 1971. It stars Vicky Kaushal, Sanya Malhotra, and Fatima Sana Shaikh in important roles.

Fatima Sana Shaikh plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film.

Why was no prosthetic used for the role?

In a recent interview, Fatima revealed that there were no prosthetics used to play the role of Indira Gandhi. Initially, she was not sure if she could do the role. She said, "I feel lucky to play this role. But, to be honest, it took me a while to believe I could do it. She (Meghna) was already convinced, but I wasn't."

Further, speaking about the many actors who have played the role of Indira Gandhi before her, she added, "We have seen in the past that so many of them have played this role before, but what's interesting in this film is that I'm playing a younger Indira Gandhi."

Speaking about the prosthetics, Fatima revealed, "We are not using prosthetics. It is slightly easier if you use prosthetics. Now, without prosthetics, I'm seeing a bit of me as well. So, I had to find the spirit of the character."

She also said how Meghna Gulzar helped her find the spirit of Indira Gandhi, which she then further portrayed on screen.

Kangana Ranaut will also be playing the role of Indira Gandhi in the upcoming film Emergency.

"Sam Bahadur Will Inspire People"

Speaking more about the film, the Dangal actress said, "Sam Bahadur' will reach a lot of people. It will move and inspire a lot of people. A whole generation doesn't know about him I didn't know about him. It is okay. Through movies, you discover real-life heroes."

She also added how it is a huge responsibility to tell the story of Sam Manekshaw, who had such a larger-than-life persona. "It is a larger-than-life character it is a responsibility that you are taking it is a huge risk, and we are all looking forward to this film," she added.

Sam Bahadur clashes with Animal at the box office. It is expected to mint over 5 crore on the opening according to advance booking numbers.
