Bhool Chuk Maaf Crosses Rs 25 Crore Mark in Opening Weekend, Defying Challenges

Debut director Karan Sharma`s romantic comedy, "Bhool Chuk Maaf", starring the fresh pairing of Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, has defied expectations, raking in over Rs 25 crore within its first three days at the domestic box office. Despite receiving mixed reviews and facing a limited theatrical run, the film is showing promising growth, with its opening weekend total reaching an impressive Rs 28.71 crore.
The film saw its highest occupancy during evening shows on Sunday at 43.96%, with Chennai leading region-wise occupancy at 86%, followed by Jaipur (38.75%), Bengaluru (37.25%), the National Capital Region (33.25%), and Lucknow (33%). In contrast, another Bollywood release, "Kesari Veer", earned a mere Rs 86 lakh over its opening weekend.

The film`s journey to the big screen has been eventful. Initially, "Bhool Chuk Maaf" faced controversy due to its producers, Maddock Films, planning an early digital release on Prime Video India on June 6, just two weeks after its theatrical debut. This move led PVR INOX Limited to approach the Bombay High Court, citing a breach of contract. However, despite these hurdles, Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, has publicly declared "Bhool Chuk Maaf" as "a genuine hit", expressing optimism about the revival of theatres.
With its promising start, "Bhool Chuk Maaf" is now poised to cross the Rs 30 crore mark by the end of Monday, cementing its unexpected success at the box office.
Weekend Box Office Performance
Bhool Chuk Maaf demonstrated a steady upward trend over its opening weekend. The film opened on Friday with Rs 7.20 crore, followed by a collection of Rs 9.81 crore on Saturday. Sunday marked its highest single-day earning, at Rs 11.25 crore, showcasing strong audience interest.
