Aishwarya Rai Discussed Her Bridal Outfit On The Sets Of Jodhaa Akbar, Neeta Lulla Reveals Deets

-

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan's wedding was one of the most buzzed-about events back in 2007. The couple grabbed eyeballs with their sizzling chemistry and how they complemented each other. What was unmissable during their wedding was how Aishwarya chose to stick to her Tullu roots and go for a Kanjeevaram saree instead of a typical red lehenga.

However, there's an interesting anecdote about how and where Aishwarya Rai's bridal look was discussed: the actress wore an orange and gold Kanjeevaram saree designed by Neeta Lulla. She was drenched in gold jewelry and looked stunning on D-Day. But do you know that Aishwarya's bridal outfit was discussed on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar?

Designer Neeta Lulla on Aishwarya Rai's bridal outfit

In a recent interview, Neeta Lulla opened up about how and where Aishwarya gave the designer a brief of how she imagined her bridal outfit to be. It was on the sets of Jodhaa Akbar when the actress was in her reel-life bridal costume.

Lulla said, 'When we were discussing her wedding outfit, she was dressed in her Jodhaa wedding outfit. I remember her saying, I'm not dressing like this for my wedding. I want to dress in Kanjeevaram, so you have to figure out what has to be done for that. Speak to my mother, and you guys do your recce as to where you want to get it woven and what you want to do.'

The designer further mentioned how particular Aishwarya was regarding her bridal-look outfit. While dressed elaborately as Jodhaa, it was clear she did not want something similar. Instead, the actress insisted on sticking to her Tullu roots and opting for a Kanjeevaram saree.

Opening up about more details on her bridal saree and blouse, Neeta added, 'Because she's a South Indian, she's a Tulu, she wanted that culture too. Her cultural upbringing, her cultural values, and everything to exude in her look and her style statement, and that's exactly what we did. We got the saree especially woven for her, and the blouse was also a very basic 5-inch sleeve blouse like a lot of South Indians wear.'

Aishwarya Rai's bridal outfit cost

Apart from the flawless arrangements made for Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan's wedding, it was the actress's bridal outfit that caught several eyeballs. Back in the day, Bollywood brides were not big on pastel outfits. Aishwarya's bridal look was one of the most expensive wedding looks ever created.

When asked Neeta Lulla about the cost of Miss World's bridal outfit, she politely denied it and said she doesn't remember.

'You do your math. I mean, a Kanjivaram saree - how much would it cost? It can't cost like a crore or Rs 75 lakhs, can it? A basic blouse with a well-cut, well-fitted embroidered zardozi blouse and jewelry - I mean, are you counting the whole thing with the jewelry? I don't know where the math is,' the Bollwyood designer further added.

Her golden-hued Kanjeevaram saree had embroidery of real gold done on it. It was even heavily loaded with intricate and exorbitant crystals. Abhishek complemented his wife in a white sherwani, which also had hues of real gold on it.
