The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) has publicly lauded the actor for what they term a “visionary and resolute” move, reinforcing faith in the traditional movie-going experience amidst the rising dominance of streaming platforms.
The film, which is a thematic follow-up to Khan`s beloved 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, is scheduled for a nationwide release on June 20, 2025. For an industry still navigating its recovery from the pandemic-induced streaming boom, this decision is being hailed as both bold and vital.

“Aamir Khan has always been a filmmaker who puts audiences first,” said Kamal Gianchandani, President of MAI and CEO of PVR-INOX, in a social media post. “His decision to bring ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ exclusively to cinemas is a powerful show of confidence in theatres and the shared magic of the moviegoing experience.”
This sentiment was echoed by Devang Sampat, CEO of Cinepolis India, who described the move as “a message of unwavering belief in cinemas.” He added, “It’s not just a film release — it’s a reaffirmation of the big-screen experience. We’re incredibly grateful to Aamir Khan Productions for boldly standing by theatres.”
For Aamir Khan, however, the decision was driven by artistic conviction rather than industry strategy. The actor, who returns to the silver screen after the underperformance of "Laal Singh Chaddha," revealed the personal nature of his choice. He admitted to being advised to take on a major action film next, but the script for Sitaare Zameen Par proved irresistible.
“This script entered my bloodstream,” Khan shared in an interview. “And once that happens, that’s all I can do. I’m not a practical person.”

“In Taare, the teacher helped the child. In Sitaare, the children help the coach,” Khan explained. “It flips the perspective — and that’s important.”
