Ludhiana Court dismisses the plea of perpetual injunction against Amar Singh Chamkila

Ishdeep Singh Randhawa, based in Patiala, filed a petition to restrict the release of the Netflix film on the streaming platform. He claimed that the makers did not have the creative rights to make the film. According to Randhawa, Gurmail Kaur, Amar Singh's first wife, had sold the creative rights exclusively to his late father, Gurdev Singh. He also claimed that these rights were passed through a formal agreement executed in October 2012. Gurmail Kaur received 5 lakh rupees in exchange.

After the passing of his father in November 2022, Ishdeep Singh Randhawa claimed that, naturally, the rights passed on to him and his family as they were the legal heirs. The court rejected Randhawa's petition and has given the film the go-ahead to be released on April 12.

Advocate Siddharth Sharma Tejas, who is the counsel for production house Window Seat Films and Reliance Entertainment, commented on the court's decision. He said, 'We argued that the movie's release cannot be injuncted as the matter does not amount to any copyright infringement and the agreement on which the plaintiff is relying is barred by the law of limitation and provisions of the Copyright Act. The order refusing the injunction was pronounced in the open court. The court said, 'No injunction, no urgency'.'
