Ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, who has launched his single "Khwaabon ki Kahaani", says Bollywood isn&amp;39;t paying much importance to music and that seems to have brought its standard down. "Bollywood pays no importance to music. The importance of music has become practically zero in Bollywood. The songs in movies are only there to promote the film. They are not an integral part of the movie or the script. "Earlier, one used to listen to some good music and poetry because the songs used to be woven into the script and they used to be relevant to the script. Today, the songs in cinemas are not relevant to films. They have brought the standard of music to the pedestrian level and there is nothing that we can do about it," Udhas told IANS. A widely popular singer, Udhas has sung songs like "Chitthi Aayee Hai" and "Jiye toh jiye kaise" in movies. His latest single "Khwaabon ki Kahaani" was launched on hungama.com, an on-demand digital entertainment storefront, in the hope of reaching out to a larger audience and as an attempt to revive ghazals. He says the lack of revenues in the music world is hampering the quality, however, there&amp;39;s hope due to the online platform. "Most of the audio labels have absolutely no revenues out of any music which they produce unless it is produced by Bollywood, because Bollywood has the money to spend. Because of lack of revenue, there is no new stuff coming out. "The only hope is a digital platform like Hungama which can take your music across to the world. So I&amp;39;m really hoping that through digital sources we will bounce back," Udhas said. Talking about his new single, the 64-year-old singer said he liked the ghazal since he first heard it from it&amp;39;s lyricist Aalok Shrivastav and recorded it within a week. "What&amp;39;s exciting for me is that this is my first ghazal single. I&amp;39;ve always done albums all my life. It was during the recording of a television serial title track which I was composing that Aalok Shrivastav narrated a ghazal that he had written. And I really liked the ghazal. "I told him let&amp;39;s record it. Within a week&amp;39;s time, we recorded the ghazal and decided to make it a single. We tied up with Hungama so that we have a worldwide digital presence. We also shot a video for the song so we can connect with the younger audience and reach a larger audience," he added.

In an exclusive interview with RJ Archana, the Made In Heaven 2 actress was asked what she thinks about marriage. This comes amidst her dating rumors with Naga Chaitanya.
Sobhita Dhulipala said, "Personally, I think if something makes you happy, you should pursue it. You should absolutely do it. But if you think youre not able to connect with the idea of marriage or if youve had experiences that have drawn you away from it, suit yourself. Because at the end of the day, love is a necessary luxury."

"Sabko chahiye, but sabko milta nahi (not everyone gets it.) And however you want to celebrate love in your life, you should. But love should definitely be a part of your life," she further added.
RJ Archana then asked her for her specific thoughts on marriage. To which she said, "If you want to get married, you certainly should. Because theres beauty in that as well. It is a very personal choice. There is no right or wrong."

RJ Archana then redirected the question to Arjun Mathur, who plays Karan Mehra in Made In Heaven 2. For the uninformed, Mathur has been divorced and is now dating Tiya Tejpal, a production designer.

He said, "Ive actually been on both sides. Ive been briefly married and then gotten a divorce. Right now, Im in an amazing relationship too. Maybe we will get married, maybe we wont. All I know is that a wedding is not a guarantee of commitment. People stay together if they want to, whether they get married or not."
Opening up about his choice of weddings, Arjun said, "Personally, Im not into these fancy weddings anymore. Even before the show, these big, fat weddings never used to enchant me. Im tired of going to them. But at the end of the day, karni hai shaadi tph karlo" (If you want to get married, just do it).

When asked about Dahi Handi, he said, "We used to watch all of those a lot in and near our buildings. But I never got a chance to break the matka. Since I was tall, I had to give support to the shorter ones who would climb the human pole and break the handi. Woh hero wala moment mera hua he nahi kabhi (I couldnt have that hero moment ever.)"
RJ Sud and RJ Palak took the Manmarziyaan actor down memory lane and asked him about what he enjoyed doing with his great Indian family in the pass time.
To which Vicky Kaushal said, "When we were young, we used to watch this iconic TV show called Hum Paanch. We used to come back from school, and it used to stream during lunch hours. Our entire family used to religiously watch that show."

"I thought it must be an out-and-out action movie with total masala and cars flying everywhere. When I went to the YRF office, there was no introduction to the story. They straight-up jumped to narrating the script. Half an hour passed and I wondered, theres not even a slap till now, let alone flying cars or any action sequences," Vicky Kaushal laughed as he narrated the same.
He further added, "Having said that, theres a lot more action in family dramas than in action movies. You can break free after robbing a bank, but in family scenes, theres no escapism."

Team Radio City caught up with Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai for an exclusive chat. As the actors gear up for their big release, ‘Azhar’ we bring you an excerpt from our candid revelry.

Q: Emraan, you had a cricket-based film up for release in 2008 when a T20 cricket league was going on. Circa 2016, the scenario hasn’t changed. You latest ‘Azhar’ is apparently not a biopic as Mohammad Azharuddin claims, but is just a representation of a few facts from his life. Your thoughts?

Emraan: Yes, I agree that the scenario hasn’t changed much but I consent with Azhar Bhai as well. I don’t think any biopic is a complete revelation of facts, at least from the way we have treated the genre. It is about Azhar bhai’s formidable years as the Indian skipper. We have only dramatized the story in the film for effect, yet we have managed to mellow down the tonality and treatment in terms of dialogue-delivery and performances.

Q: What’s the catch behind the tagline, ‘Love him, hate him, judge him.’?

Emraan: We have loved him as a cricketer in the 80’s and 90’s from the time he started his career to when he came out to captain our team in the early 90’s. But then it also speaks about how our adulation turned into dissent when the controversy broke out in his life. Inspite of getting acquitted of all charges in 2012, there is still a section of us who wrong him. We do not look to change opinions through the film, but we want that those who are misinformed and misguided about Azhar bhai know what it was all about.

Q: Prachi, suddenly there is a change in the perception that women are not interested in cricket. Do you believe that?

Prachi: Well maybe suddenly there are too many good-looking cricket players. laughs But no, I like cricket as much as anyone else does. Not that I follow it religiously, but I watch the important ones like the India vs Pakistan matches.

Q: You play Azhar’s first wife , Naureen in the film. Have you met her?

Prachi: Yes I have on a personal level. She is a very private person who has never come out in the limelight. So I had no research or any data to buy for the preparation of my character. So she personally expressed her desire to see me as she had seen my TV shows before. So when I met her, I did not tell her that I’m playing a role modelled on her but I thought I should let things go with the flow.

Q: Emraan how much of the off-screen Azhar have you managed to pull off on-screen?

Emraan: When we used to lunch during our sessions, I would watch him closely and observe his mannerisms. Even though I have not managed to pick up the way he talks, I’ve managed to learn the way he walks. winks

Q: When one watches the teaser, one feels that it is not you but Azhar who walks out of the pavilion.

Emraan: Yes, I felt the best compliment I received was when Azhar’s son came up to me and said that when he watched the trailer, he thought it was his dad who he saw on the screen. That meant a lot to me.

Q: The teaser was shot last year, why so?

Emraan: We had shot so because we wanted to capture enough curiousity through the intervals and breaks in the T20 matches.

Q: Learning to bat like Azhar would have been tough though, tell us about it.

Emraan: Yes it was. I had done weight training for years because of which my wrists had become stiff. Whereas to play like Azhar bhai, my hand required fluidity and agility. Infact, he advises youngsters to never get into weight training. That’s why I had to do yoga to maintain my fitness, in order to get the way he plays.

Q: How much of original footage did you had to go through for this role?

Emraan: We did have a few references from the net but a lot of key details cannot be found even if we searched it up the net. So Azhar bhai and our producers really helped us in our collecting lots of facts and figures. Infact, once Azhar bhai got on board to help us with the film, he even shared a documentary on his life with us. He also shared some of his cricketing gear with us.

Q: The movie has been extensively shot abroad as well. How easy was that?

Emraan: We got the permission to film at the Lords’ because of Azhar bhai’s contacts. So we’ve shot at the Lords’. We’ve also shot at D.Y. Patil stadium and the old Sahara stadium.

Q: Prachi, you’re teaming up with Emraan after more than five years and people love watching both of you together. Has there been a difference?

Prachi: He has a wicked sense of humour, to the point of almost being nasty. When we are shooting a scene, he can crack me up even with a straight face. He’s kind of become unbearable to work with, that way. laughs

Q: Emraan, do you feel the same?

Emraan: Well, she has matured and come of age with this film. The way she has picked up the nuances of Naureen will make you feel that no one could play the character, better than her. She is pretty commendable.

Q: Emraan there is always this notion that good music and Emraan Hashmi make a superhit formula. Your comments?

Emraan: I don’t think, Ive done anything major to take that credit. It’s just that the imagery has been created in such a manner that music directors too feel a bit intimidated to bring out good music in my films. Like with ‘Azhar’ Armaan and Amaal Malik got confirmed at the last minute. And they have delivered fantastic music.

Q: You’ve teamed up with the Malik brothers once again after your hit music video, ‘Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon’. ‘Bol do na Zara’ is already a chartbuster. So is there a possibility of more music coming from you three?

Emraan: I hope so. They are both very talented and mature for their age. I was floored when I first heard ‘Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon’ and am very glad that they’ve composed for the film as well. I hope we collaborate often.

Q: The one question that is on everyone’s mind is, why Emraan Hashmi is the choice to play Mohammad Azharuddin?

Emraan: I’m yet to figure the answer for that myself. Because I wasn’t a particularly good cricketer in school so I had my own doubts on how I would play Azhar. I was actually very scared because I had no idea how I would adopt his playing style. But since the movie’s focus is on the controversy and his relationships, I knew I was safe that way.

Prachi: I’ll add to that. There is a certain rawness in Emraan. When you’ll watch the film, you’ll feel like no one could have pulled off Azhar better than him.

Q: Lastly, what is the one message you’d like to tell everyone out there about ‘Azhar’?

Emraan: This film is inspired by the life and times of Azhar bhai. Whether you’re a cricketing fan or not, do watch the film. For those who do not like cricket, there is enough romance and music to take away from the film. It’s not just about cricket, it’s also the story about a human being behind the glamourous life.

Prachi: It will give you an insight of the cricketer’s life and it will also be entertaining in every aspect. So do watch it.



I was actually very scared to play Azhar: Emraan Hashmi


Singer and former member of all girls pop band Viva, Neha Bhasin who has come up with a new single "Nai jaana", says it would be nice if the band comes together for one song just for their fans.

The band, which was formed in 2002, also comprised singers Seema Ramchandani, Pratichee Mohapatra, Mahua Kamat and Anushka Manchanda.

Asked if Viva would reunite, Bhasin told IANS: "It will be nice to come back for one song...even if it is just for the fans, but no talks right now."

The "Asalaam-e-Ishqum" hitmaker says she is not sure about the band's reunion.

"I am not sure about it Viva reunion. The likelihood of that is on the lesser side than on the more side. So I have no idea. We all talk. Now everybody is busy in their individual careers..." Bhasin added. 

Talking about films, the "Dhunki" hitmaker has crooned a romantic number for superstar Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma's upcoming film "Sultan".

Q: Sunny, all your movies get huge hits on social media. The response to the trailer has been outstanding. What is your current feeling now?

A: Sunny I am overwhelmed. ‘One Night Stand’ is not just about sex, it’s also about what happens following a one night stand. How the lives of the characters get affected in many different ways is what forms the crux of this film. So I’m very excited to know how the audience receives this film.

Q: Tanuj, this your first film with Sunny. Tell us about the experience of working with her.

A: I’ve said this all the while wherever Ive been to and Ill maintain that. She is the most hard-working, large-hearted and gracious co-star, I could have the privilege of working with. She would let me cheat on my diet quite generously but she would be watchful of what am I eating.

Q: Sunny, do you feel the same?

A: Well yes, he is very sincere and dedicated. We got along very well. We had to film some very intense scenes so he would get into this deep and brooding zone. But once the camera was off, he would turn into such a goofball.

Q: Tell us about the movie’s director. How was the experience of working with Jasmine?

A: Sunny Jasmine Moses D’Souza is a very picky director. She is like every other woman who is particular about detailing. So even if we may do a few more retakes of the same scenes, she would always ensure that the end product was nothing but the best.

Q: Describe the soundtrack of the film.

A: Tanuj The soundtrack consists of music that you can listen to on a Saturday night as well as when you want to relax. So it’s a mix of both moods.

Q: Sunny, you’re working with SRK for the first time in a song for his movie, ‘Raees’? How does it feel to be working with him?

A: Sunny I was very happy. It was like a dream come true because I always wanted to do any kind of appearance with the Khans and I’m glad I got that breakthrough with SRK. But yes, I had the most special embarrassing moment in front of him. When I first met him on the set, my hair was done up in a weird way, so when I saw myself in the mirror after meeting him, I told myself he must be wondering as to who is this ghost. laughs

Q: Tanuj, what is the one last thing, you want to tell your listeners about this movie?

A: Well for those who are fans of Sunny, let me tell you that not only is she sexy, but she has also delivered a deep and an intense performance in this film. So do watch it on May 6th, at a cinema near you.

Q: Sunny, since you’ve lived in Mumbai now for a while, what do you like the most about Mumbai?

A: Sunny I like the Marriott. I like the Asilo in town as well. I really enjoy the view of the city from the lounge. I cannot bask enough in the city’s glory.

Q: Since summer is here, what is your fashion tip for girls?

A: Sunny Just wear simple cutesy colours that are summer friendly and keep a check on what you eat. Eat mangoes but not a lot of them as they get you quite heated from within.

Q: What’s your summer mantra, Tanuj?

A: Tanuj I prefer being a jeans and t-shirt kind of a guy in summers.

Singer Shibani Kashyap, best known for her songs like “Sajna aa bhi ja” and “Din to gujar jaye”, says she is a big fan of popular American fictional superhero Captain America.

The role of Captain America is played by Hollywood actor Chris Evans in Marvel's film franchise.

"I am a huge fan of Captain America and I have followed the series as well,” Kashyap said in a statement.

Not only Kashyap, singer Mihir Joshi also considers himself as a “comic buff”.

"I am really impressed with the whole setup as well as the virtual reality sets. Being a huge comic book buff and also being part of so many comic book clubs on social media, I am really excited to watch 'Avengers: Age of Ultron',” Joshi said.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron”, which stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlett Johansson among others, is going to be aired in India on Star Movies on Sunday.

A recipient of the Best Pop Artist Award at the Radio City Freedom Awards 2015, Pune-based singer and songwriter Prateek Bhaduri’s music is soulful, moving and is known to leave a lasting impression on his listeners.

Fondly referred to as Pune’s very own John Mayer, he is multilingual in his renditions and has composed songs in English, Hindi and Bengali. He has been featured on several print and online publications for his award winning single, ‘Drift Deeper’.

In a recent interview to Rolling Stone magazine, you described yourself as a crowd-reaction-phobic front man. Why so?

I was very animated when I used to perform as the frontman for ‘Infidels Of Sanity’ which was a Progressive Rock and Psychedelic outfit and ‘Livewire’ which was into Classic Rock and Blues. I always enjoyed an audience that cannot stand still. So when I started out on my own, I used to attend corporate gigs where I was asked to sing Bollywood fare. So when the reaction differed, I realised that our music may not cater to all audiences alike which is why I chose to perform in different languages so that I could reach across to a wide spectrum of listeners.

Your debut album is multi-lingual which is exceptional. But why?

As an artiste, I believe in being versatile and experimental. Unlike other musicians who prefer dabbling in one genre, I like to cater to the different asthetes that my listeners hold. Which is why I write my songs in English, Hindi and Bengali. My new album, ‘Different Shades of Me’ comprises of songs which are distinctive and reflect different sides of me as a songwriter and as a person.

Are you the only musician in your family?

I come from a typical Bengali family where art and culture takes precedence fortunately. My mother is a classical dancer and she also teaches. As a child, I used to sing in choirs. Like every other kid I had a dozen aspirations but football and music were two things I loved the most. I used to listen to my seniors in school who would perform at rock concerts. My school had a jam room for such bands which I believe is the coolest thing, a school could do.  I used to bunk my Marathi classes only to watch the practice sessions of these bands, and that’s where the idea germinated within me that music was my calling.

A concert experience which was life-changing for you?

I guess when I was headlining with The Moonstruck Project at Symbiosis Pune’s annual fest. The crowd knew the songs we were to play, which meant that half the job was done for us. So while performing, I fell off from the stage and hurt my shoulders. For me that was a life-changing experience. 

Besides music, tell us about your other interests.

I am an ardent football fan which is one of the requisites of also being a Bengali. So I do my bit in promoting the welfare of football. I keep a track of everything happening on the football front in India. I help organize football fests in Pune.

Where do you see yourself in hindsight?

I am currently working upon the release of my album. Also, am looking forward to touring across the country with my band, The Moonstruck Project and be a part of as many music festivals that I can. A lot of my fans have been writing to me to do more videos so I look forward to release some great music videos as well. That’s my plan in a nutshell for 2016.

Lastly your advice for budding musicians?

Believe in yourself and in what you do. Give everything you can to what you are doing and respect everyone, irrespective of whether they hate you or love you.  Contribute to making this world a better place with your talent and that is all it takes.
