October 2 is marked as Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. On this occasion, lets remember some Bollywood actors who brought us a step closer to Gandhi Jis vision and mission.
1. Naseeruddin Shah In Hey Ram
The historic crime drama depicted Gandhi Ji's assassination by Nathuram Godse. Naseeruddin Shah aced the role of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi with his perfect Gujarati accent. The Kamal Hassan directorial Hey Ram was released in 2000.
2. Rajit Kapur in The Making Of The Mahatma
The Raazi actor portrayed the role of Mahatma Gandhi before he became a prominent world leader.The 1996 release speaks about the time when Mohandas Gandhi, an Indian-based barrister, was called to South Africa to fight a case for the rights of Asian laborers facing horrifying racism before becoming a freedom fighter.
Helmed by Shyam Bengal, Rajit Kapur truly nailed his portrayal of Gandhi in this history-drama.
3. Darshan Jariwala in Gandhi, My Father
The veteran actor won The Best Supporting Actor Award for his uncanny portrayal of Mahatma Gandhi. Also featuring Akshaye Khanna who played the Gandhi's first son Harilal, the critically acclaimed movie was about how he gets on the wrong track and becomes an alcoholic.
4. Dilip Prabhavalkar in Lage Raho Munna Bhai
Who doesn't remember this iconic movie! Bapu became Munna's (Sanjay Dutt) rescuer and taught him to walk on his two primary principals - Satya and Ahinsa.Not only the franchise was a blockbuster but also gave us a new perspective on how to repsect our freedom fighters, their sacrifice for the nation, and how their values can make our everyday life better.
