Singer, composer, and lyricist Pooja Gaitonde unveils her latest original song ‘Rasiya’, a hauntingly beautiful fusion of classical Indian Thumri and contemporary indie elements. Released on July 17, 2025, the track captures the emotional depth of viraha — the pain of separation and longing between lovers — and transforms it into a modern-day musical journey.
Inspired by a single line once sung by the legendary Ustad Mehdi Hassan, Rasiya was born out of pure instinct and emotion. “It’s a no-formula song,” says Pooja, who wrote and composed it during an impromptu piano session that blossomed into a two-year-long creative process.
The song is produced by Nikita Kulkarni, who also brings in the rich sounds of live sitar by Megha Rawoot and expressive guitar layers by Kavan Bhatt. The final mix and master are crafted by Adil Nadaf, with the sitar recorded at NJoy Studio by Joy Sengupta.
Visually, the song comes alive in a monsoon-soaked music video directed by Sarang Mhaskar and edited by Tanvi Salunkhe, painting a vivid picture of emotional vulnerability and reflection.
Known for blending traditional raagdari with global music styles like jazz, electronic, and pop, Pooja Gaitonde is one of the leading voices in the new-age Sufi-pop movement. With Rasiya, she continues to push the boundaries of spiritual and emotional expression while staying rooted in Indian classical traditions.
