Virat Kohli has officially retired from Test cricket in May 2025, drawing the curtain on a stellar 14-year journey in the longest form of the game. with 9,230 runs in 123 Test matches, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties, Virat Kohli retires as India’s fourth-highest run-getter in the format, with a commendable average of around 48.7.
His retirement comes shortly after Rohit Sharma stepped away from Test cricket. Kohli`s last appearance in the longest format was during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar series held in Australia.
Although he began the series with a century, his recent struggles, particularly on difficult overseas tracks, raised concerns about his position in the squad. Kohli is now expected to concentrate fully on limited-overs cricket, with a particular focus on ODIs and the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. His retirement marks the end of a legendary chapter in Indian Test cricket history, leaving behind a legacy that inspired a generation.
