AR Rahman defends Main Vaapas Aaunga
Main Vaapas Aaunga has redefined cinema with its impactful storytelling, hard-hitting emotions, and performances that will be etched in the history of Bollywood. With Imtiaz Ali delivering his finest, the film has already garnered appreciation from across the industry.
Now, a user has called the film anti-national in a satirical way. A social media user shared a video review of Main Vaapas Aaunga, which forced music composer AR Rahman to react.
For the uninitiated, the movie narrates a love story amid the horrifying India-Pakistan partition. It explores the theme of love, loss, memories, migration, and belonging.
The anti-national tag
A user took to Instagram and shared a reel, mocking the neighboring country for “showing Pakistan without terrorists and secret agents.” The headline read, “Anti-National? The movie dares to show Pakistan without terrorists and secret agents."

The caption read, “The man who was excited to watch an Indian spy exact revenge on Pakistan and who, toward the very end of the movie, says, `Mein Vaapas Aaunga,` was disappointed that the movie had nothing to do with terrorists and spies. Though touched by the heartfelt drama, he was confused about how Pakistan can neither have terrorists nor spies, given that’s all they seem to have in other movies. He later mentioned in an interview that this was something completely new, and he walked away with the perspective that there can be normal humans in Pakistan.”
Rahman took to his Instagram stories and re-shared the reel, reacting humorously to it, keeping aside the satirical criticism and the tag of `anti-national.`
Main Vaapas Aaunga marks the fifth collaboration between AR Rahman and Imtiaz Ali after Rockstar, Highway, Tamasha, and Amar Singh Chamkila.
