TMKOC Actor Lalit Manchanda passes away
In a distressing development that has sent ripples through the Indian television industry, actor Lalit Manchanda, known for his role in the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, was found deceased in his Meerut residence on April 19, 2025.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the 48-year-old actor died by suicide, with financial distress and personal stressors suspected as contributing factors.
Manchanda, who had also appeared in various television serials and commercials, was reportedly grappling with mounting debts and a lack of steady employment. Sources close to the actor indicated that he had been under considerable pressure due to these challenges, which may have led to his tragic decision.

This incident is not isolated within the Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fraternity. In 2020, Abhishek Makwana, a writer for the show, also died by suicide.

His family alleged that he was a victim of cyber fraud and blackmail, having fallen into a trap set by online loan sharks. Makwana had reportedly taken loans from dubious apps that charged exorbitant interest rates, leading to a cycle of debt and harassment.
Furthermore, actress Monika Bhadoriya, who portrayed the character Bawri on the show, has previously spoken about experiencing suicidal thoughts during her tenure. She cited personal losses and a toxic work environment as contributing factors to her mental health struggles.
These incidents underscore the pressing need for mental health awareness and support within the entertainment industry. The pressures of public life, coupled with financial instability and workplace challenges, can have devastating effects on individuals.
