The world of rock has been plunged into darkness. Ozzy Osbourne, the iconic frontman of Black Sabbath and the undisputed "Prince of Darkness," has died at the age of 76. The news, announced by his family on Tuesday, comes just weeks after a triumphant farewell concert in his hometown of Birmingham, leaving fans and fellow musicians heartbroken.
Rock titans Metallica shared their grief, stating, "It`s impossible to put into words what Ozzy Osbourne has meant to Metallica." Aerosmith mourned him as "our brother in rock," and Sir Elton John remembered his "dear friend" as a "huge trailblazer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods."
Less than three weeks ago, Osbourne delivered a final, blistering performance in Birmingham. He was joined by a host of rock royalty, including Metallica and Guns N` Roses, all there to pay homage to the man who started it all. Sammy Hagar of Van Halen, who also performed, was in awe: "For him to have been that close to death on July 5 and still get up there and perform like he promised... Wow! That puts him in a category of his own."
