India`s most renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam recently addressed an uncomfortable incident at East Point College in Bengaluru, where a young fan aggressively demanded that he sing in Kannada during his performance. A video of the moment has gone viral on social media, capturing Sonu’s composed yet strong response.
“I Love Singing Kannada Songs”
While addressing the crowd, Sonu Nigam shared his heartfelt admiration for Kannada music and the people of Karnataka. He said, “I’ve sung in many languages, but the finest songs of my career are in Kannada. Every time I come to Karnataka, I do so with immense love and respect, because you’ve always welcomed me like family
Fan’s Rude Demand Sparks Response
Referring to the boy’s aggressive behavior, Sonu said, “He rudely threatened me to sing in Kannada. I’ve been singing Kannada songs before he was even born.” The singer made it clear that the tone and manner of the demand were disrespectful, and such actions were not acceptable.
He added, “This is exactly the reason why incidents like the one in Pahalgam happen. Before you raise your voice, first see who is standing in front of you.”
Always Performs Kannada Songs for Fans
Sonu emphasized that his respect for the Kannada language is well known. “Wherever I go in the world, even if there`s a crowd of 14,000 people, and I hear just one voice shouting ‘Kannada,’ I sing a Kannada song for them. That’s how much I love and respect you.”
A Call for Mutual Respect
While Sonu Nigam reaffirmed his affection for Kannadigas, he reminded the audience that artists deserve mutual respect and dignity. “I always come here with love. Let’s keep that spirit alive,” he concluded.
Sonu Nigam’s powerful message from the stage wasn’t just about music and it was a reminder that love must be met with respect.
