Ever wondered how movies were promoted back in the day without any PR or media agency`s help? The makers usually declared an actor from the film`s cast dead. Shilpa Shirodkar recently opened up about one such rumour that caused panic and distress-like situations in her family.
It was during her 1995 film Raghuveer, which also starred Suniel Shetty, when the makers decided to spread a rather bizarre rumour about her as a promotional activity.
Raghuveer also featured Suresh Oberoi, Sudha Chandran, Mohnish Bahl, Aruna Irani, Gulshan Grover, Prem Chopra, and Shilpa herself. During the shoot, a rumour circulated that the actress was shot dead – a promotional stunt that caused chaos in her personal life.

The Bigg Boss fame sat down for a candid chat with Pinkvilla and recalled, “I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel because we didn’t have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. Everyone who was watching the shoot there kept thinking if this is Shilpa or someone else because they knew the news.”

Further describing the alarming moment when she returned to her hotel, Shirodkar said, “When I came back to the room, there were around 20-25 missed calls. My parents were worried; there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead."
The shocking rumour turned out to be a marketing move, which the producer later clarified was meant to be a promotional activity. Shilpa was unaware of the same till then.
"When he told me, I was like, ‘Okay’. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this was going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time,” she shared.
Despite the chaos, Shilpa took the strategic prank with a pinch of salt and said, “The film worked well, so I wasn’t really angry.”
On the work front
Shilpa Shirodkar, who is fresh off her stint on Bigg Boss 18, is all set to make her big screen comeback with Jatadhara – a pan-Indian thriller drama. The movie revolves around the mysterious Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple.
The film, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Sudheer Babu, brings a perfect blend of thrill, suspense, and mythology. It also marks Sonakshi`s Telugu debut.
Shilpa plays a pivotal role in what promises to be a captivating cinematic comeback. The release date for Jatadhara is yet to be declared.
