Shanaba Azmi breaks silence on her controversial kiss with Dharmendra
Shabana Azmi and Dharmendra took cinephiles for a jaw-dropping ride with their viral kissing scene from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. It was unexpected and absolutely adorable.
While the film was headlined by Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh, it was the veteran actors` performance that stole the show.
Ever since the Karan Johar directorial was released in 2023, their kiss has been a topic of conversation every time either of the two sits down for an interview. Two years after the film`s release, the actress broke silence and spoke about the controversial kiss.
For the uninitiated, Shabana (Jamini) and Dharmendra (Kanwal) played long-lost lovers that reunite due to their grandchildren, Rocky and Rani. The movie went on to do fabulous business at the box office.

In one such scene from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Jamini and Kanwal, two estranged lovers, meet after decades, and time stands still. In the emotional moment, Abhi Na Jao Chodkar plays in the background as their lips meet in an adorable kiss.
Recently. The Sholay actor reacted to the controversy in his signature style, saying while Ranveer had a lot of intimate scenes with Alia, it was Dharmendra who stole the show with that one kiss.

Shabana Azmi, during a chat with NDTV, opened up about the controversy and said, "Such a big thing—the central thing of the film, is it? But then it tickles people, I guess. It was done with and over in a second. What was funny was all the reactions of the family, and then, actually, I think Jaya`s character fainting was the best."
She further elaborated about her character and added, "What my character Jamini says very clearly is that she realised she had made a mistake of sacrificing her love at a time when she felt it was her duty to. Those 7 days that she spent with Kanwal gave her a lifetime of memories and connected her. That`s because her character was sensitive, sensible, and educated. When she sees Rocky, she knows instinctively that he is the correct boy for Rani, and she does not want her granddaughter to miss out on the opportunity like she did."
Shabana Azmi`s idea of romance
The veteran actress, who has explored all kinds of cinematic genres, shared her personal idea of romance. She said it was not about being wooed with gifts and flowers but more about being able to sail through life together.
"My idea of romance is not about being wooed with flowers and grand gestures. I understand that when you are younger, you have different expectations of romance. But at the end, it`s being in love, which is the most important thing, because then it makes you sail through the upheavals of life. It can help you navigate the path, sometimes together and sometimes separately," she shared.
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani was released in 2023, and the film recently marked its two-year anniversary.
