Delhi HC Rejects Sameer Wankhede`s case against SRK, Aryan Khan
The internet has been shaking and quaking after Sameer Wankhede filed a defamation case against the makers of Ba***ds of Bollywood, including Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, and Aryan Khan. This comes after a scene in the show went viral, where the actor was seen bearing his striking resemblance.
The former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) zonal head filed a case against OTT giant Netflix, Red Chillies Entertainment (owned by SRK and Gauri), and Aryan over the series Ba***ds of Bollywood, which marked the star kid`s directorial debut.
The matter was brought up before Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav. Wankhede was represented by Senior Advocate Sandeep Sethi, while Senior Advocates Harish Salve and Mukul Rohatgi represented Red Chillies and Netflix.
What happened in the hearing?
The hearing began with a rather basic question when Justice Kaurav asked Advocate Sethi why the suit was filed in the national capital. The latter argued that since the show was made for national viewing, and memes centring Wankhede were also circulated in Delhi, jurisdiction was made out.

However, the court did not buy the response and said, "Your plaint is not maintainable. I am rejecting your plaint. Had your case been that you were defamed at various places, including Delhi, and that maximum damage occurred here, we would have still considered it."
Citing Section 9 of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC), the Court cited lack of jurisdiction. When Sethi requested time to amend the plaint, the judge explained, "I am not giving any date. The Registry will give the date once the application is listed."
Why did Sameer Wankhede sue Aryan Khan?
The ex-NCB officer has allegedly called Aryan`s show `false, malicious, and defamatory`. He further claimed that the series "disseminates a misleading and negative portrayal of anti-drug enforcement agencies, thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement institutions."
Wankhede also suggested that The Ba***ds of Bollywood was "deliberately conceptualised and executed with the intent to malign Sameer Wankhede’s reputation in a colourable and prejudicial manner."
He claimed a damage of INR 2 crore, which he proposed to donate to the Tata Memorial Cancer Trust for the treatment of cancer patients.
